2012-8-20 MCC Green & Gold Game

63rd Street & Central Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The NW corner was home the the 1927 Spanish Baroque styled building, known as the Crane & Moreland Building. The second and third floors were apartments. There were various businesses that occupied the ground floor over they years. The most notable one was Central Drugs which opened in 1945 and remained until 2013. At one time Rexall products were sold here. Central Drugs relocated 1 mile west to 63rd & Narragansett Ave.

The Federal Aviation Administration decided that the three story building was too tall and to close to the runways of Midway Airport. It was deemed a safety issue so the FAA bought the property in 2013 and demolished the building in September of 2014.

As you can see by the photo's the Terra Cotta trim and Friezes were saved and made into the pillars and raised planter boxes.

A memorial plaque was also placed at the corner to pay tribute to Martin Moreland and George Crane, as well as Architect, Edward G. McClellan.
