Created in England in the late twelfth century, this manuscript was intended to be a scientific textbook for monks. The manuscript is brief at nine folios, and was designed as a compendium of cosmographical knowledge drawn from early Christian writers such as Bede and Isidore, as well as the later Abbo of Fleury. Those writers, in turn, drew on classical sources like Pliny the Elder for their knowledge, but adapted it to be understood through the filter of Christianity. The twenty complex diagrams that accompany the texts in this pamphlet help illustrate them, and include visualizations of the heavens and earth, seasons, winds, tides, and the zodiac, as well as demonstrations of how these things relate to man. Although the exact grouping of texts and diagrams here is unique, the manuscript is related to other scientific compilations from this era, such as British Library, Royal Ms. 13 A.XI, Cotton Ms. Tiberius E.IV, and Oxford, St. John's College, Ms. 17.

This illuminated and illustrated copy of the Khamsah (quintet) of Niẓāmī Ganjavī (d. 605 AH / 1209 CE) was executed in Safavid Iran and dates to the middle of the tenth century AH / sixteenth CE. There are six colophons in Arabic that supply neither the date nor the scribe's name (fols. 31b, 119a, 175a, 238a, 325a, and 371a). The text is written in black nastaʿlīq script with section headings in blue. Twenty paintings attributable to the Shiraz school illustrate the text. The dark brown leather binding with central ovals and pendants, all brushed with gold, is original to the manuscript.

I treasure her blue diary. It has recipes, short knitting patterns and even her own Swahili-Marathi dictionary. Some of the recipes are not legible because of spills, such as this recipe for 'Palak Mutton' (Goat meat with spinach). My heart aches when I browse through this legacy and yet I am home.
Till recently the only picture I had of my mother in her youth was the one at the top right. My husband brought back some black and white pictures from India this Jan. The picture on the bottom right is of my parents wedding in 1957. And the picture at the top left is in 1978 in Nairobi.
I thought about making this sepia or black and white and brightening the image. But I preferred to preserve the color of the slowly aging paper, her blue 'fountain pen' and the browning blue smudge.
The text above is in a script called Devanagari and the language is Marathi.

Man weiß ja nie.
Was wunder.
He usually lies stretched out so long beside the monitor, that a paw floats always menacingly over the ESC key. My fat old tomcat Madnix, crazy about roast chicken, salmon and tuna. Everything I produce on the computer is stored as a precaution before going to the bathroom or to the stove when the guy lolls on the desk. You never know. He also prances when he gets up to check to see if the other two cats are on the verge of knocking, always so close to the keyboard that you always count on the worst. Madnix is already an elderly man, eleven years he counts now, it was not surprising, he would suddenly make a misstep. Recently, however, came to me a very different idea, which concerns the beautiful old boy:
He logged in secretly.
I was sitting next to the telly. The PC monitor buzzed on the desk. That's when I got the typical impact sound in my ear that sounds when six and a half kilos of hangover jump from the desk onto the carpet. BOOM! made it very dull, and the next moment Madnix wandered comfortably into the living room. He looked unusually alert and somehow slimmer than half an hour before. As if he just consumed a lot of energy. And he also underlined this impression by going to the feeding bowl next to the sink and eating half a day's ration in three minutes. What a wonder.
He had triggered with concentrated concentration the defragmentation of my computer. Or had it jumbled over the keys in such a sophisticated choreography that it was triggered. Anyway, my monitor showed that the hard drive now had 2 GB more memory.
Now I'm waiting for Madnix to show me how to get Excel working again; It has been out of action for a week. But Madnix just lies over the monitor and is silent. Tomorrow's fried chicken. And salmon and tuna.

Sign on the laneway into camp: "No cares and woes beyond this point". While the general mood of camp was indeed light-hearted, camp was actually a good place to share cares and woes, in moderation, while at the same time getting away and gaining perspective.

This is an illuminated album (muraqqaʿ) in accordion format containing Persian calligraphy. It was executed in Iran during the eleventh century AH / seventeenth CE. Lines of text in black nastaʿlīq script are framed by decorative cloud-bands. Borders are decorated with illuminated vegetal and animal motifs on multicolored paper. This album bears a seal impression of the Ottoman Sultan ʿUthmān Khān (Osman III, r. 1167 AH / 1754 CE -- 1170 AH / 1757 CE) and a bequest (waqf) entry and seal by Ibrāhīm Ḥanīf, inspector of awqāf (fol. 1b). The dark brown leather binding with central oval and pendants is contemporary with the manuscript but may not be original to it.

For the ODC challenge "Black" I had several different ideas bouncing around, but then an Amy Winehouse track from her iconic album came on and I though why not.
Plus, this gave me an opportunity to flex my design muscles a bit, which I've been more interesetd in lately with the FMOF campaign I'm beginning to put together, and playing with text effects in PS is just kind of fun.
(not to mention, quick and fairly simple compared to my other recent projects!)
Alright, time to get "back" at it..
Get it!
illustrator is amazing, even that takes me hours to make that amazing 3d texts haha.
hope you like it !

You know how the beat goes: Saturday night, ballroom dance. Girl meets mutant boy, mutant boy lights her cigarette and in the process sets her heart on fire as the delicate parasite of love starts to devour her guts inside out. Add the sweet-sweet melodies and divine pitches of the D & his Retra-mongo-motorized crazy kids to the mix and get you booty shaking. Don't forget to buy that gorgeous turquoise dame of yours a special house martini to ease her thirst—if that could even be possible!—, frame the whole picture and conquer posterity! Incredibly cool music contained inside the new Munsterama summer music catalog in mother-Spain for which this illo was carefully thought and chemically engineered. Everywhere you look at Ephesus there are huge chunks of stone covered in elaborate carvings, this one was a bit different though and was covered in text. If anyone know's what it says feel free to provide a translation, it could be a great work of poetry (or a shopping list....).

or Love of Alphabet, Letter Love, Love Letter? What do you think I should call this picture I made? It’s gouache on watercolor paper. The size is 50 x 65 cm. There is no frame that has those measurements… it's a bugger! So now I have to order a customized frame, and they are extremely expensive.
But I have learn my lesson so next time I will double check the standard measurements on frames before I throw my self into creativity ;-)
Would you consider buying a poster like this? (With the right measurements of course and a reasonable price!)
I’m thinking of order some prints of this alphabet picture.
It’s not a first-class photo, I wanted to scan it but it wouldn’t fit in my little scanner ;-)
I will take some photos when I have framed it and its up on the wall.
