My 10 week textiles exploration course is coming to an end and on Sunday we are putting on an exhibition for family and friends.
This is the fabric book cover I have made.
I painted and stamped unbleached calico and then appliqued circles on the front, made from painted, free machined cotton and painted dried baby wipe.
The pages are held in place (and can be removed easily) by lengths of knotted knitting yarn.
There is just one problem with this picture of what looks like a textile factory, taken in May, 1989 - there are no workers. Can anyone solve the mystery?

This design was inspired by my own photography work, more specifically a shoot I did last November taking macro shots in woodland. On the shoot I took a few shots of wild mushrooms, then later found an advert in a magazine featuring a close up shot of a mushroom much like the ones I had taken. I put some glue dewdrops on top of the ones in the image to experiment with texture.
I printed one of the macro shots I had taken of a fern, ripped it up and glued the pieces down randomly. I knew I wanted to do a textile design and tried to find shapes within the new image to include. After outlining a few I found one that interested me (in black rectangle) and that I though would work well in a repeat pattern because of its free-flowing lines.
The second room, just off the far end of the dry room, is called the "wet room", so named because of its slanted floor and drain at one end. This room is designed for aqueous and non-aqueous cleaning ( note fume extraction hoses extending from ceiling).
