The rich heritage of Jaipur's art and crafts dates back to the times of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. When he was building the city in the eighteenth century, he invited artisans from different parts of the country to come and make this city their home. He made special arrangements for their work and stay here, which attracted many craftsmen to this Pink City. The high level of craftsmanship that existed during those days can still be found in the colorful shops of Jaipur.

Shahtoosh shawls of Jaipur are fine examples of the woolen and silk textiles of India. The textiles from the arid and semi arid regions are bright and have rich embroidery on them.

I made a "tea bag" out of Stash tea bag wrappers. They are all sewn together on the sewing machine. This was fun!

This is a close up of my textiles piece in which the brief was about mapping. I chose to look at mapping of a city and the architecture of a city. I've always been fascinated with the idea of utopia in architecture from the modernist period and dystopia from iconic films, such as the imagery in Metropolis. By using techniques to manipulate and experiment with the fabric ie. dyeying, tearing, staining, I used dark colours to create a visceral piece of textile and printed drawings of utopian architecture (either my own designs or from precedents) onto the pieces of fabric which then became a disjointed applique of architecture.

This is a rug I hooked rug that I did with a proddy border. Design is by www.woolbaasket.com called Stars & stripes. I did this in honor of my cat, Otto, who passed away last year.

On the first day of drop-ins, kids try out making a cozy cup holder.

Textile pendant, re-photographed in attempt to get better pics. A new, lovely tea-rose coloured velvet ribbon necklace compliments the beads used.

Red and black printed textile from around 1400

Felt, wire, embroidery. Not sure if it needs some more surface action. Still thinking.

A short statured onion (averaging about 15 cm tall) with white flowers borne in erect umbels and flowering late spring and early summer in sagebrush steppe combine to distinguish Allium species. This site occurs in sagebrush steppe at the southwest end of the Lost River Range, just north of Arco, Butte County, Idaho.
