My second-favourite kanzashi set I made...once again, hand-dyed habotai silk. This was for winter in my GA-themed kanzashis for my textile design class. I decided to do non-traditional kanzashi's based on the maiko kanzashis that very depending on the month they are worn.
This photo shows the different stages well. You can see that the wool just being taken out is yellow-green and when it is exposed to the air it becomes blue! These gals are full of dye knowledge, so I really enjoyed hearing about and experiencing all of the recipes and ways the wool needed to be prepared for the dye bath. Irma, Franzi, Yaro, and Ilona.
Sand was a true labour of love. Each dot was individually drawn - there are almost 5,000 of them in each repeat. Two sizes of dots are swirled together to reflect the shifting pattern of the tides.

I use a curtain in the beginning to help the design stay in place. This is a good idea for beginners!
This is a fun hand bag that I designed with wool and silk and it is inspired by Matisse paper cuts!
Windflower was inspired by delicate dried flowers that I found at one of the beaches in White Rock, BC. I tried to capture the contrast between gently swaying flowers and solid boulders in this design.
