Old carpet samples and production waste get a second life with AW’s design contest. While sorting and recycling will always be important environmental measures in the carpet and floor covering industry, upcycling pushes the envelope that bit further. By upgrading waste into new, desirable products, AW takes an ecological stand while feeding its creative hunger. The contest challenges Belgian design, fashion and textile students to create a product, garment, furniture or accessory with carpet scraps. The finest design wins a cash prize. From March 29th to May 13th the winning designs from 2011 and 2012 are being exhibited at TIO3 in Ronse.

Here's one of the basic fabrics, Quilt Block Polka Dots, which I made for a small mini collection. See the whole collection, Bold Basics, and read more on the

Sneak-peek of the textiles I've developed for ERMIE Holiday:

This is an as of yet Untitled Print. Printed on 100% Organic Cotton Sateen.

When designing the textile, think of it as your body of work and what message are you trying to send out to the world? Textile design is amazing because you can take pride in seeing your original artwork displayed on people all over the world!

So fun!

Making the a wrap around involves some elbow grease! The cord should also be long enough to hang down a little after the skirt is tied on. This is one of the first steps to success! Our Schorndorf group worked very diligently and we got great results.
