"Material Transformations" workshop with Yoshiko I Wada, Porirua studio, NZ

I've been working on FALL 2009 textiles lately. Nothing makes me happier than symmetry, color, and french. I'm hoping these get printed on silk-couture...we'll see! I've been designing textiles for the past few years very quietly for a company, so, this year I hope to finally get my website up and running with all the millions of textiles I've made and are in the works. I love textile design!

When designing the textile, think of it as your body of work and what message are you trying to send out to the world? Textile design is amazing because you can take pride in seeing your original artwork displayed on people all over the world!

So fun!

I liked using Mari's hand dyed wool because it had lots of color nuances that a solid dyed fabric would not have. We also used a silk blend with wool as a highlight wool on the outer layer (there were 3 thin layers of wool all together). I cut my piece 1/3 down the middle because I wanted the back to hang over my back side and bottom so that I could sit on it if I were outside and did not want to sit on the cold ground.

Size: 100cm x 70cm.

Inspired by my photography taken in May.

Composed using 3+ photos of Epiphyllum.

And when the colour is being painted and spread on paper.. my heart is filled with JOY.

Happy weekend to all..!!
