Seminary textbook: "Cornelius Nepos: with Answered Questions and Imitative Exercises," edited by Thomas Johnson (1853), chosen by Emily Wells ’15.
"One of my first archives projects was to create a database of the books housed in our Seminary Textbook Collection. This contains books that were used by students during Mount Holyoke’s seminary years (1837–1888). These books are records of intellectual connections forged among students during the College’s early years. Because students followed a set curriculum, almost every woman attending Mount Holyoke at the time would have read the same books. Through their common education, students would connect with their peers, forming friendships that would continue throughout their lives. This book, which contains the selected works of the Roman biographer Cornelius Nepos, was once required reading for Mount Holyoke students. Inside, a student left a handwritten note expressing her frustration with the book, writing: 'Nepos! A perfect bugbear to all juniors' and 'A thorn to all Holyoke juniors.' "
Discarded medical textbook page of I can't remember what, three Roman statues from a rescued French Ancient sculpture book, clip art black and white flowers, radio socket diagrams from a 1949 Radio handbook the library threw out. Scavenged USA postage stamp, and Ebay butterfly stamp.
Brilliant book. Lots of images of teeth, and a whole chapter on working with (bending, soldering and tempering) stainless steel wire.
Code samples from Beginning Mac Programming by Tim Isted, from Pragmatic. The PDF reader is GoodReader.
Spent the last day of school inside the library checking-in books from the few students who came and from teachers.
Each student in the class will buy this kit instead of a traditional textbook.

I was not at all happy with this cake. It was made in a big rush and the fondant was really difficult to work with.
Two of six Blue Shieldbugs found in the Kingmoor North Nature Reserve (Area 3), Carlisle, 14 April 16.
I started checking out the Blue Shieldbug hotspots in my local nature reserve well over a month ago but without any luck till today! To be honest, as it was a dull and cloudy afternoon, I only really went out to stretch my legs, and so I was both surprised and delighted to get my first sightings of the year. All six were found in an area of leaf litter no more than a few square metres in extent. A seventh one was found an hour or so later on a boardwalk in Kingmoor Sidings (Area 2), a few kilometres to the south.
The first two shots are of the same specimen feeding on an Altica species beetle - the favoured food item of the Blue Shieldbug according to the textbooks. In fact one of the reasons I kept re-visiting this particular spot, despite repeated disappointments, is the number of Alticas I've seen sunbathing on the leaf litter here over the past few weeks!
As I found over 100 Blue Shieldbugs in the Carlisle area last year and posted numerous photos it's not my intention to focus too heavily on this species this year, and I certainly won't be reporting all of my sightings on Flickr. However, if I'm lucky enough to get a shot of a mating pair then I'll make an exception! Eggs and early-instar nymphs would also be nice!
I returned to my classroom after Winter Break to find about $12,000 worth of Social Studies Texts and materials in my classroom. I requisitioned them in December. I was thrilled they arrived so quickly, but it made for a hectic way to start after the break...
This is what m classroom looked like in the process of cataloging all of the books. Keep in mind that this is after things were starting to look good. :)
