Honolulu has grown to be the first fundamental US city to decide to limit crossing the street at the same time as the use of your mobile phone.

From October, anybody caught crossing an avenue or highway “whilst viewing a mobile electronic tool” will face a nice of as much as $35 for a primary...

Laughing Woman With iPhone Smart Phone

I am absolutely amazed at kids today, how they interact with each other. They'll be in mid conversation, they bring out there telephones and then send a text message. What's so amazing is that none of them see it as rude that the other isn't paying attention.

I also laugh because wireless companies are making money hand over fist on text messages that these kids send to each other every 5 minutes - $0.10 $0.20 each way (you send, they charge, you receive, they charge). Oh, you can get around it if you buy a "package" - what a deal. X amount of texts for $5 but you get the bonus package if you pay X + $10 per month. They're helping you out - right?

The truth is, text messages are virtually free for the wireless network. That's right, they're lining their pockets with your money. Don't believe me? http://consumerist.com/5120004/nyt-text-messaging-virtually-no-cost-to-carriers Try that out.

So, as we're teaching our children bad manners, we're paying wireless companies to do it. It's a lose-lose situation.

Photographically speaking... yea, it's a shaky photo but the bus was rolling hard through the Liberty Tunnels and I was shooting through a pretty scratched up plexi-glass window. A little Camera Bag action added for artistic effect

A little information about this photo:

Casey (driver) and I had a project to make a public service anouncment for a magazine. We decided to take on the dangers of texting while driving. We ended up with two very similar shots this one, and a vertical version. We went with the other (vertical) for two reasons. 1) It is better for a magazine, and 2) it holds the text we inserted better. But this shot still gets the point across. If you like to see the final product here is the link to it

Thank you for making this my most viewed photo ever. I don't know what it is about it, but thank you for visiting. And please, be safe while driving.

JOHN MARKOFF, Google Cars Drive Themselves, in Traffic, October 10, 2010

Sebastian Thrun's and Google are testing the Toyota Prius as an Autonomous Driving vehicle. Not only has the car has been cruising California’s Highway 1 between San Francisco and Los Angeles, but it has also been navigating its way through traffic along Lombard Street, one of the steepest and curviest roads in the country!

Thus far the vehicle has driven 1000 miles without human intervention and 140,000 miles with minimal human intervention, (like when a bicyclist suddenly runs a red light.) In the instance that a person needs to intervene, one simply grabs the steering wheel, hits the breaks, or punches a red button on the dashboard.

The car is equipped with 360-degree perception that reaches up to 200 feet away. This information is fed into the dashboard that coordinates with the GPS to create a 3D map detailed to include street lamps and pedestrians.

Mr. Thrun says they do not have a clear business plan for the technology as of yet, but the autonomous driving will reduce fuel consumption, reduce accidents from 37000 each year, and use lighter weight materials to build the vehicle, thus lightening the damage to the environment.

What is event better: our fears of texting while driving will be a thing of the past.

I'm in another office, just about to go into a meeting and I get a text asking if I am going to be able to meet a friend in my normal offices canteen. I didn't have time to reply (to explain that I was about 95 miles away) so he just kept sending them...

I sat down for the meeting and I could feel my phone vibrating away; I knew other people could hear it as well (was on silent but with vibrate turned on) as they kept looking at me!

I got so many that the phone actually got warm to the touch :)

If you count the ones I'd read as I was walking into the meeting (another 11) I had over 200 identical SMS.

Woman Texting On Mobile Cell Phone

The three weather stations set up by USAID's Morocco Economic Competitiveness program gather yesterday's data automatically and then distribute information via text messaging to participants of the program concerning how much they need to water their crops. This intelligent acquisition and distribution of data is what makes the farmers successful in reaping profit from their crops.

Wednesday:

i firstly want to say a big THANK YOU! to everyone who massaged me here and on myspace and facebook and to the text messages, comments...every wish/hello meant something to me ♥ and i'm working on getting back to everyone...

i admit, when i woke up this morning i was nervous...see, my birthday is never a really good day for me...something always goes wrong, and though for me it was Prop 8 NOT passing (horrible!) the day here in my home, was peaceful and happy...i woke up to a text message from my dad, two of them and was given a card shaped like a giant $100.00 bill...and inside was a real one :D which of course means, say it with me now, Jacqueline: SEPHORA MONEY! oh yes *swoons* Sephora this weekend is calling my name...

anyway, i digress...i was worried because i miss marsea...i can't pretend i don't...for years we celebrated together and without her friendship i was worried i feel alone, hurt...and i do feel a little hurt...but, i have wonderful friends, amazing ninjas at my side...and so, my 27th birthday was fantabulous and i'm happy...even sick, it was a good day and this weekend i'll go out and celebrate <3

**oh and i should add, my dad's english isn't great, he is also CLUELESS with technology but i taught him how to text message and he never stops! he sends me funny photos, messages, daily and loves it...it's weird and fantastic hehe**

David Beckham's been following me around all day...

It's not a bad way to spend the day.

He doesn't talk. He just sits there looking pretty.

I don't have to worry about him not returning telephone calls or text messages. It's the perfect relationship, really.
