I'm such a photo nerd. Saw this reflected in the water on a tetherball pole at the park the other day. Just thought it looked cool. I only had my cell phone camera with me.
Mary Garden (1874-1967) was one of the giants of the opera world, feted in France, Britain and the United States. She was the first woman to direct an opera house and sing leading roles at the same time in Chicago and created the role of Melisande in Debussy's opera 'Pelleas et Melisande'. She was a skilful manupulator of the media but was decorated by the French government for her work as a nurse in the First World War and for her promotion of French music in America she was given the Legion d'Honneur. A fascinating but elusive character.
The little dinghy is tethered to a schooner in town for Maritime Heritage Festival. This photo is me. Strong shadow. Weathered hull. Heavy-duty chains and cables show my strength (sisu, chutzpah, perseverance) and work ethic. The little boat waits to go somewhere. The Power is waiting too. I just have to loosen the tether and crank the motor -- and go! But oh my, isn't the light play on the lake surface beautiful, mesmerizing and distracting.... I think I will stay tethered and sit here awhile.
This is the line that holds the big boats that carry passengers to and fro the city and Puerto Galera.
the marines at miramar were very particular that the flags fly free... within minutes of someone tucking in the flag, two marines came up the bleachers and immediately told them to release the flag. oh and just incase you're thinking it, it wasn't me...
