The photos in this set were under exposed by two stops to compare the image noise of the Nikon D7000 at various ISO settings in an under-exposure situation. The image quality in terms of detail and noise looks generally alright until ISO 1600. From ISO 3200 onwards the noise starts to dominate more as ISO increases, with progressive loss of detail. At ISO 25600 there is considerable loss of detail and a lot of noise. My conclusion based on this test is that it is not advisable to go higher than ISO 1600 if the subject is going to be under exposed by two stops or so.
When properly exposed, there is little loss of detail and not much noise up to ISO 6400, based on another test - D7000 ISO performance at correct exposure.
Best viewed at full size. Photos taken with Nikon D7000 and Sigma 18-50 lens at f/9, aperture priority. No noise reduction. Light from a large window on camera left.

I was organising one of my self portraits, testing the lighting, compo, all of my other 'self-portrait-traditional-set-up-stuff' and this was the first shot.
Just came across it on my card, thought I had time to kill so I retouched it.
5 hours total.
Button test run of the warped images for the Button Project. Apologies for the soft focus, but you get the gist.
Second attempt (first here) at this idea for a University of Texas logo gobo and lighting test. Same basic lighting setup as last time (See Lighting Diagram), but with the key light firing into a umbrella about 2ft to camera left and quite a bit more background/ foreground separation. Background shadow isn't quite so well defined this time. Still playing around with the relative distances to cast a good, crisp shadow. Perhaps I need a bigger gobo to really get what I want.
This time I used the plamp to hold the cut-out, so gives it more of a floating in space feel, but that could be improved with a bit of photoshop to clean up the shadow at the bottom. Skin tones are also as shot, without any toning this time.

A part of a pier at Solvik BÃ¥thavn outside of Oslo, this is one of the less crappy shots I got today. I was doing a test run of twilight photography where I started off by walking a trail, trying out various framings and angles before retracing my steps with a clearer purpose (and hence less fumbling to find a good view) than last time.
The irony is of course that my previous round to this place resulted in better photos than today's round. The clouds seemed very promising only 20 minutes before sunset, but moved south quickly thus creating a full overcast where the sun set. Oh well...
