The Ionic Temple was used by the Duncombe family and guests for dining and socialising after promenading along the Terrace. The ceiling is the chief glory of the Temple. Its frescoes of mythological scenes are the work of Italian painter Giuseppe Mattia Borgnis, who came to England around 1753.
The large fresco in the centre of the ceiling depicts a blond Apollo in his horse-drawn chariot, surrounded by a chain of female "hours", following Aurora, who is bringing light to the world. It is based on the Guido Reni’s mural in the Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome.
The smaller fresco on the left depicts the Roman goddess Diana, one of the twelve Gods and Goddesses of Olympus, falling in love with Endymion, a symbol of timeless beauty.

We walked up and up and up in the hot hot sun today. I thought I would die. Was it worth it for this view? You bet! That's a fig tree you see at the center, by the way. The whole path up was lined with figs, plums, and apricot trees. The water is the Bosphorus. It was mesmerizing to watch it sparkle and watch the barges continuously passing through.
