The Bethesda Terrace and Fountain were conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in their designs for Central Park, with construction beginning in 1859.

The mid 1700s rose terrace outside the walled garden, Harewood House grounds. It used to be heaving with roses of many varieties. Still beautiful to my eye.

The Monona Terrace at tnight. It was really windy, and I'm not proud of the flares, but still an interesting shot.

These rice terraces are up to 3000 tiers high and have an extremely intelligent irrigation system. Also, animals kept in the top layers supply the fertilizer in form of dung, which gets washed down every tier through the irrigation channels. these terraces are known to be 1300 years old (from bronze excavations found nr. Kunming only in the 1950s) and maybe older. To this day, the Hani people (aka Akha in some countries of southern Asia) work on and create ever new terraces. A wonder of this world!

This is one week after the deluge on the 21 April 2015 at Raymond Terrace; shows the value of having some high country when you own floodplain properties. Approx 500 head were drowned in the Hunter.

The latest project: DIRT AND ROCKS! I built two curved terrace walls and backfilled them. It adds a nice border between our yard and the neighbors' yard which is about three feet higher than ours. Well, nicer than a weed covered hill. Next step is to add plants and mulch.

Toureen Terrace, Passage West or An Pasáiste, near Cork harbour. These houses were built 200 years ago and more, for sea captains - the old name for this series of sturdy stone havens was Mariner's Row; no two are alike, all have the feel of homes raised to withstand vicious gales and furious inclemence, generations of offspring, huge families all.

Day 2

Also from the Terrace Bay tourism site:

The Aguasabon Falls & Gorge is a stunning, must-see attraction in Terrace Bay and along Lake Superior. With a beautiful ferocity in the spring and a serene grace in the summer and fall, this spectacular 100 ft. waterfall cascades into the Aguasabon Gorge—flowing along a 2.6 billion year old rock face.

The Aguasabon Falls came to life in the late 1940s, through the Aguasabon Hydro Development that created a source of hydro-electric power to breathe life into the soon-to-be Township of Terrace Bay and the local pulp mill. The project established a dam at the north end of Long Lake to redirect water southward and away from Hudson Bay, where the water traditionally flowed. All this was done to ensure an ample supply of water would be available for the Aguasabon Generating Station—a massive undertaking, to say the least, and a significant achievement for Canadians.

As a result of the diversion, Hays Lake (just North of Terrace Bay) enlarged to massive proportions and the spillway created the falls you see today. An even more interesting aftereffect, the diversion of water south, and away from Hudson Bay, raised water levels in Lake Superior and the rest of the Great Lakes of North America!

As of today, the flow of water at the Aguasabon Falls is still managed by the Ontario Power Generation Company (OPG) and continues to produce Hydro-electric power for Terrace Bay and the pulp mill.

I spent half an hour or so digging stuff out of the 'bits box' to make up a diorama based around the new terraced houses kit.

Some grass sheet, a few bits of card wall, fence and some figures soon did the job.
