This view looks from the podium under north-eastern end of Gilbert House at the western end of the Barbican Water Gardens. In the foreground and stretching off into the distance is the Lakeside Terrace. In the foreground the tables provide an ideal location to eat a meal ordered from the Barbican Kitchens (inside to the right), whilst beyond in the wide area is seating for just relaxing and soaking up the sun (at least on this particular day!).

To the left, beyond the lake, is the City of London School for Girls, a private school funded by the City. At the end of the lake, to the left, is a narrow perspective onto the Thomas More Gardens; on the right is the end of a terrace block, Defoe House. Beyond both is Lauderdale Tower, one of the three skyscrapers on the site.

The pink hangings on the very far right of the image are part of a temporary art installation. I think it may have still been getting installed at this point; there were certainly men climbing, working and abseiling on it when I visited. Look carefully and one of the men can be seen at the top of it.

The Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces are a popular feature in Yellowstone National Park. The step-like terraces form as heated water moves along the Morris-Mammoth Fault. The hot water carries dissolved calcium and bicarbonate to the surface of the terraces where pressure lessens. Carbon dioxide then escapes as gas and the carbonate combines with calcium to precipitate as travertine.

The Mammoth Terraces are constantly changing shape and color. Springs which were active one to five years ago may be dry and lifeless now, yet activity may later resume. Along with changes of thermal activity come changes in color. Fresh travertine is bright white in color and as it weathers it changes to gray. Bright colored cyanobacteria and algae mats which were dependent upon a stable temperature and a flow of water also change as the microorganisms die creating a stark, bleak landscape.

Rows upon rows of terraced housing is still earmarked for redevelopment. The Benwell area is currently going through a regenerational process - this is one of dozens of boarded up streets.

We left the snow behind, for now

This would be Lillian's own terrace at Fallingwater. I must say, for a "getaway home" the Kaufmann's had some excellent taste! The house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the kaufmann's in rural South-Western Pennsylvania on land already owned by them. For a house built in the 1930's, it sure stands the test of time.

I have funny neigbours. There is an example what can be left on my terrace, the garter

Hard to believe I've lived in China since 2004 and travelled to most provinces, but never been to Guilin, one of its most famous tourist areas, on the back of a Chinese banknote no less. Of course, knowing by now how crowded and commercialised these famous tourism areas in China can be, I had some reservations about going to Guilin. However, I've found that one way not to be disappointed by a destination is to cycle there. As the cliche goes, its more about the journey than the destination, but when you're cycle touring, that's certainly true, and the destination is simply somewhere to aim for with a hot shower and good food. And so the day and half I spent hiking around the Longji Rice terraces was in some ways just something to do to give my knees and backside enough time to rest from the 90km cycle from Guilin, before I began the enjoyable cycle back. As it turned out, the Yao Nationality wooden villages and rice terraces of Longji were not actually all that overrun by tourism, and seemed to be keeping their character, locals still going about their business, sometimes combining a traditional farming lifestyle with a small restaurant or guest house. Any sign of mass tourism was mostly confined to the souvenir stalls around the entry gate and main designated scenic "views", numbered 1, 2 and 3. Needless to say there were many other spots just as scenic.

Albert Terrace is one of the oldest streets in Saltaire and still retains its original setts (cobbles). Some of the houses along here are three storeys high and were originally intended as shared lodgings for young single workers, but they apparently preferred lodging with families so, before long, these too became family homes. Overlooking the railway, church and open countryside, they have a very pleasant aspect.

William Henry Street and George Street had terraces of overlookers’ houses with taller boarding houses built at each end. The overlookers’ houses were the best appointed, having wider frontages and small front gardens, round-arched ground-floor openings with dressed stone heads. Internally they provided a sitting room, kitchen, scullery, cellar and three bedrooms. The taller, middle houses had four to six bedrooms.

Saltaire is a Victorian model village. The Victorian era Salt's Mill and associated residential district located by the River Aire and Leeds and Liverpool Canal is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

Saltaire was built in 1851 by Sir Titus Salt, a leading industrialist in the Yorkshire woollen industry. The name of the village is a combination of the founder's surname and the name of the river.

Little bit of clouds, little bit of smoke from controlled burns, little bit of fog drifting in from Kitimat... add sunrise, frame and click. Taken this AM just before getting into the chopper. Back here by 2 to catch a plane back to YVR. Jet set lifestyle eh? ;)

Here is the terrace at the beginning of the season. I spent a bank holiday throwing away all the things that had been wizened by winter and slaying the engorged slug population. Now I am just giving them seaweed and watching them sprout. Already it's having a growth spurt so I thought I would chart its progress. The Squirrel has attacked all the empty window boxes. My tactic this year is to grow anything small inside until it's big enough not to be of interest to the peanut burying squirrel. Oh how I hates him. HATES HIM I DO.

Each day I have a delicous breakfast on this shadily terrace with a wonderful view on the pool and the western Crete mountains.

Terrace is famous for its mysterious white Kermode bears - otherwise known as Spirit bears, Moksgm'ol or ghost bears - which are unique to this part of the world. The bear is Terrace's official mascot, and various statues of the animal, all uniquely painted, are on display at several downtown locations. The statues can also be seen on the Grand Trunk Pathway, a beautifully landscaped park.

Villa Savoye is a modernist villa and gatelodge in Poissy, on the outskirts of Paris, France. It was designed by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, and built between 1928 and 1931 using reinforced concrete

As an exemplar of Le Corbusier's "five points" for new constructions, the villa is representative of the origins of modern architecture and is one of the most easily recognizable and renowned examples of the International style.

A section of the terraced gardens at St Michael's Mount. I think we spent longer looking around the gardens here than the castle...
