St. Mary's Church is the third brick temple in the world in terms of volume. Built in the years 1346-1506, the church is an example of brick Gothic, popular in the countries of the Baltic Sea basin. A dozen or so years after the completion of construction works, in 1529 the Reformation arrived in Gdańsk and the first Protestant service was held in the Gdańsk parish church, but until 1572 the main altar was used by Catholics.
The historic parish church of the Main Town in Gdańsk in the years 1572-1945 served as a Catholic and Evangelical church. Catholics took over the church only after 1945.
Despite its turbulent history, the temple has retained its historical architectural form, as evidenced by the iconography dating back to the 16th century, and the rich interior design made up of numerous medieval works.

Historyczna fara Głównego Miasta w Gdańsku w latach 1572-1945 pełniła funkcję kościoła katolickiego i ewangelickiego. Katolicy przejęli kościół dopiero po 1945 roku.
Pomimo burzliwych dziejów, świątynia zachowała historyczną formę architektoniczną co poświadcza ikonografia sięgająca XVI wieku oraz bogaty wystrój wnętrza, który tworzą liczne dzieła średniowieczne.

In terms of conservation, threats to red kites have been via direct poisoning and indirect poisoning from pesticides resulting in almost extinction in the 1900's.. Woodland clearance and other changes in agricultural practices created a reduction in food resources. Other threats included electrocution, hunting and trapping and egg-collection. This persecution resulted in a rapidly declining population with extinction happening in Ireland. In 2006, the first Red Kite was seen in London after 150 years and they are now protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act. Whilst numbers have increased, they remain on the amber list.

Amidst the great variability, in terms of colors and shapes, of blooms presented by orchids of the Dendrobium genus, those species belonging to the Callista section stand out, characterized by their showy inflorescences in the form of leafy bunches, with petals, sepals and lips in varied shades. Dendrobium chrysotoxum is a beautiful representative of this botanical section, known for its abundant blooms, composed of yellow petals and sepals, which contrast with the lip in an incredible shade of yolk orange.
The flowers are highly fragrant of honey and are short lived.
Despite being from the cactus family, the May flower does not have any thorns. It originates in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil and is scientifically known as schlumbergera truncata.
Its preferences are similar to orchids in terms of support. In its natural environment it prefers to use tree trunks as support. Therefore, this place is one of the best to keep your flower.
The name of this plant became popular due to its flowering, which takes place in May. However, it can be known in other ways depending on the region you are in. Thus, other common names are: silk flower, easter cactus for the southern hemisphere and christmas cactus for the northern hemisphere.
This flower fell in love with gardening enthusiasts because it is medium in size, has a huge variety of colors such as pink, pale yellow, red, orange and white, in addition to being very easy to grow.
The May flower reaches 30 cm in height, and can be kept in smaller pots with a diameter of 10 cm. Another curiosity is that if this plant is pollinated, it produces pink fruits with 1 to 2 cm when ripe.
***
This plant blooms in autumn, which in Brazil takes place between March and May. This time is close to Easter, which is also related to the flower. On the other hand, it can still bloom around Christmas in the Northern Hemisphere.
In this way, the May flower is linked to festivals that symbolize rebirth and life. Because it has many cheerful colors, it brings more liveliness to any environment in which it is, valuing any garden decoration around it.
The name silk flower is related to the soft and delicate texture of this flower. Therefore, these definitions are also among its meanings, offering more softness to the place where it is grown. That's why you can even stay in the plants to improve the energy of the house.
If offered as a gift, its symbolism indicates an attitude of pure and true feeling. It can also be used for declarations of love, representing the sincerity of the relationship.
Bison
Though the terms are often used interchangeably, buffalo and bison are distinct animals. Old World “true” buffalo (Cape buffalo and water buffalo) are native to Africa and Asia. Bison are found in North America and Europe. Both bison and buffalo are in the bovidae family, but the two are not closely related.

The terms "mushroom" and "toadstool" go back centuries and were never precisely defined, nor was there consensus on application. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the terms mushrom, mushrum, muscheron, mousheroms, mussheron, or musserouns were used.[3]
The term "mushroom" and its variations may have been derived from the French word mousseron in reference to moss (mousse). Delineation between edible and poisonous fungi is not clear-cut, so a "mushroom" may be edible, poisonous, or unpalatable.[4][5] The word toadstool appeared first in 14th century England as a reference for a "stool" for toads, possibly inferring an inedible poisonous fungu
It is the start of the tulip season here in Holland. Each season the fields are different in terms of location and type of flowers. So it takes some exploding to find the right spot. In this field the tulips are not yet fully in bloom, however I actually like that because it gives some extra dynamic to the shot.
Hope you have a great Easter holiday.

It’s a strange and wondrous world a photographer lives in, searching for truth that is objective and subjective at once…a combination to show what really happened and our own insight. When it comes to capturing a facial expression, you have to gain an intuition about the way a subtle change or a shift in shadow changes our perception of what stage the idea in a mind or a felt emotion was in terms of coming to fruition. We are all complex people but Yoshimi of The Boredoms and OOIOO is perhaps one of the more complicated artists and humans out there. And sometimes, this makes it impossible to choose one photograph instead of two the same way a mind might experience two thoughts at once veering towards the same awareness point. Time passes and that same moment might disappear into a distant vanishing point…this is why we have cameras after all…in order to study the nuances of what makes us humans.
Incidentally, this same kind of conundrum and artistic experience occurred a few other times but most notably when I took a couple of portraits of the Canadian singer, Julie Doiron. I couldn’t decide what I liked best and so I included both:
www.flickr.com/photos/kirstiecat/3596469364/in/photolist-...
I also think that we’re all living many lives and sometimes catch glimpses of each other….are we the same human if we’re the sum of all of our experiences and those experiences diverge at a certain point? Maybe not…..but perhaps….perhaps….we can catch a glimpse of ourselves and show some recognition and maybe even a smile.

In a biogeographic definition, paramo is any intertropical mountain ecosystem, characterized by shrubby vegetation that generally occurs from altitudes of about 3,000 to 4,000 meters or up to 5,000 meters, that is, in regions above the forest line. continuous but still below the permanent snow line. It is found in East Africa, New Guinea, and Central and South America. However, since in each of these regions this ecosystem has a specific name, when discussing Paramos, we refer specifically to Andean Paramos.
In this strict sense of the term, all Paramos are located in the neotropical zone, mainly in northwestern South America, present in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. The ecosystem occupies over 30,000 km² of South America and represents 7% of Ecuador's territory. In absolute terms, Colombia is home to 50% of the extent of Paramos (in its three branches of the Andes) and the largest Paramo in the world (Sumapaz).
Paramos' climate is characterized by wide daily fluctuations in temperature and humidity. In general, cold and humid, can undergo a sudden and drastic change in which temperatures fluctuate from below freezing to 30 ° C plus in a daily freeze-thaw cycle. High altitude in tropical locations produces a special, cold, low air density atmosphere that allows for greater dispersion of ultraviolet radiation (light and heat). This climate can be summed up in the phrase "winter every night and summer every day."
In Paramo ecosystems, soils are generally recent, of glacial and volcanic origin, and many are still in formation. Its structure is a combination of organic material that decomposes very slowly in cold weather with volcanic ash. They usually have low pH (acidity) because of the abundance of moisture and high content of organic matter. These characteristics contribute to soil water retention, which in turn is the basis of an essential environmental service: the constant storage and distribution of clean water to lower places.
The largest and most known area is the Páramo grass, which covers large areas of the mountain ranges. It extends from approximately 3,500 to 4,100 m in height, and is mainly composed of grasses and small shrubs.

I wished I had photographed at this location when I was in the Badlands 3 years before, but it had rained and the ground was downright slippery. So, three years later, I went right to it. One prob though when I was scouting in daylight - I didn't have my compass. I'm worthless without my compass. So, when I returned after dark, I immediately could see I was way off the mark in terms of the direction of the Milky Way. Consequently I had to bumble around in the dark looking for compositions. Bumbling around amongst hoodoos and pinnacles is, for me, disorienting, and dropping breadcrumbs isn't gonna help me find my car when I'm finished. This wasn't my favorite composition in terms of my lighting - hard to get definition and texture in that uneven rock without causing unwanted black holes. BUT, this frame does have a swell meteor flashing through it. Maybe give it a click to view larger as the rock texture does show up a bit. I think I see my car out there in the low right corner too. 😉
Leipzig's Central Station is, in terms of area, the largest terminus in Europe. Following several different architectural competitions, the cornerstone was laid in 1909. The station opened in 1915, at which time it was one of the largest railway stations in the world. During the 1990s, Central Station was completely renovated and modernised. In late 2013, the City Tunnel, running underneath the station, was opened. All train lines of the Central German S-Bahn pass through the tunnel.

Another image from the visit to Cresswell in Northumberland last weekend. It was everything I could have wished for.....virtually deserted beach, warm and a constantly changing sky both in terms of colour and texture.
More than anything, it was the light catching the ripples on the sand that attracted me to this shot.

One of the most fascinating aspects of meteorology is its interaction with landforms and geography in general.
A given flow, a given front, a given Low (pression) do not live on their own, but in the interaction they have with the earth's surface, loading themselves with moisture as they cross oceans, seas and large lakes and releasing it when they encounter barriers such as mountain ranges.
The mountain ranges create thermal contrasts and accumulate clouds on the windward slopes (stau), greatly increasing the rainfall on these slopes and limiting it (possible Foehn) on the leeward ones.
The higher and longer the chain, the more these phenomena are exacerbated.
Meteorology, in the interaction of tropospheric dynamics with the earth's surface, generates microclimates, i.e. particular and recurring meteorological trends over small areas which are markedly different (in rain-thermal terms) from the trend that should occur within the climatic belt to which the small area belongs and which differs from the others, even contiguous ones, according to the variations brought about by the orographic variables.
Meteorology is much, much more than the (complex and fascinating) weather forecasts, which "today" are computerized by powerful calculators which, starting from data taken in real time from weather stations all over the planet, issue a series of short and medium term projections on how the meteorological situation will evolve subsequently.
The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural area of calcareous or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a wide area of pine forests in the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karstic phenomenon possible. The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of their morphology, chemical composition and degree of hardness is what has allowed their uneven wear by atmospheric elements, resulting in a surprising sample of picturesque art from nature itself. To the whimsical and spectacular existing formations we must add lapiaces, torques and sinkholes.
It shares these characteristics especially with "Los Callejones", a place located in the municipality of Las Majadas. Both places are part of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, created by the Law of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha 5/2007.
Besides the obvious, there are certain benefits to being what some of my former colleagues would refer to as "careful" with money. The more kindly former colleagues that is, I should add. Others wasted no time in coming up with rather more abusive terms for my steadfast refusal to throw away my hard earned on fast cars, champagne lunches and visits to Monte Carlo, but I would just smile and remind them that they'd still be working long after I'd retired. That tended to either stop them in their tracks with dumbstruck expressions, or had the opposite effect of exacerbating the tirade. Still, I'd just smile as I opened my home made cheese salad while whichever friend it was lavished another fiver on a disappointing looking sandwich and an overpriced coffee.
I often earned similar brickbats for refusing to join in the incessant charge along the highways and byways, driving at a benign pace rather than hammering along the outside lane at eighty-five miles an hour. I prefer to watch the fuel consumption reading rather than the speedometer you see. When I was younger, and very probably heading for a midlife crisis, I owned a white Vauxhall Astra GTE. It was very fast and it made me drive like a fool. It also used a lot of petrol. Now I have a modest Skoda that can get halfway across the country and back to Luton Airport without me having to refill the tank.
So there are aspects of Iceland that suit me, despite the fact that things are generally quite expensive in comparison to where I live. The jaw dropping landscape is something of course that very much ticks my boxes, but while many visitors seem to struggle with the fifty-five miles per hour speed limit, I don't. I simply pop the rental car into cruise control, set the speed and steer contentedly through the beauty around us - trying to concentrate on the road of course - the scenery can be distracting.
Other aspects of Iceland can be a trifle worrisome though. Last time we were here, we parked freely and quite legitimately on a patchy pull in, before walking the short distance to the triple waterfall of Kirkjufellsfoss. It was close to midnight under the twenty-four hour daylight glow, and only a small number of togs were around to compete for position with. On the other side of the pull in was another bit of scrubby ground beside the beach where we could also have parked for free. But three years on, things have changed. A brand new car park with number plate recognition cameras awaits the visitor, and swiftly relieves them of a thousand krona, regardless of how long they're planning to stay for. Needless to say, the waterfall was surrounded by a large number of visitors, many of them armed with tripods and cameras, all after that classic shot of Kirkjufell that looks so familiar. Admittedly there was still a pull in nearby, but there was also a sign that suggested our car might get towed away if we parked there, so we didn't stop for long.
But on the plus side, this aversion to parting with money for no good reason eventually added some unexpected shots to the catalogue, including my previous post, "Night Traffic." Our irritation at the prospect of coughing up the cash had taken us to a generous lay-by overlooking the sea. From there it was a leisurely fifteen minute amble along a footpath back towards the waterfall, and directly past the lake, where Kirkjufell gives away mirrorlike reflections on still days without charging a bean. And when the sky is doing interesting things at the end of a wet and grungy day, that seems like a reward worth grabbing with both hands.
We took a number of shots here, starting well before sunset and pushing on into the blue hour. I'd had a plan to revisit a patch of marshy ground I'd found the previous evening, but the presence of a growing number of togs along the bank of the lake appealed to my better nature as I wondered how easily they'd be able to clone me out of their sunsets. So here I stayed, enjoying the fact that I hadn't paid a thousand crowns for the privilege. It wasn't a bad spot from which to watch the day ebb away.
"As far as color terms go, vermilion is a winner, reeking of exoticism and antiquity. As fine as this color feels tripping off the tongue, it’s even easier on the eyes. Vermilion refers to a specific shade of reddish-orange washed with ashy gray, reminiscent of an overripe beefsteak tomato. This is the pigment derived from cinnabar, which is both the natural ore of mercury and another word worth working into conversation whenever possible. ..."

Ribera Market, located beside the river estuary in Bilbao, is a reference in terms of shopping for the whole of Biscay. One of its many merits is to have been recognized in 1990 as the most complete municipal food market by the Guinness Book of Records, at that time being the largest in terms of traders and stalls and the biggest covered market as regards space in the whole of Europe, with a surface area of 10,000 square metres. Refurbishment work began en mid-2009 aimed at renewing its structure, stalls and services in order to remain a reference for shoppers in the 21st century. Not in vain, life and business have never stopped in this space where more than 60 merchants manage to provide customers with the finest produce at the best price: meat, fruit, shellfish, cheeses, cooked meats, frozen food, mushrooms and fungi...

Stupinigi hunting lodge - Apartment of the Duke of Chiablese - Game room.
The room of greatest consistency in terms of size and style in the apartments of the Duke of Chiablese is undoubtedly the game room, a large space intended for the recreation of the court inserted in a rectangular room with rounded corners and two large niches on the most short.
The ceiling, decorated by Giovanni Pietro Pozzo in 1765, takes up the same exotic and oriental motifs of the walls that play the role of an elegant frame for the play furniture inside the room.
This includes a mid-18th-century sitting room (photo), a Louis XV-style game table with a precious chessboard inlaid in ebony and ivory, a desk with fine inlaid early 18th-century ivory figures.

Specifically, the following photo was found to be in violation: www.flickr.com/photos/145003604@N02/51902747612/ Please be aware that any subsequent violation of the Flickr Community Guidelines or Terms could result in termination of your account without further notice. Regards, Flickr Staff"
The photo that was specifically "found to be in violation" is the one preceding this one with the title "Solidarity with Ukraine! Down with the criminal state of Russia!"
I sent the flickr staff the following reply: "I wonder very much what is wrong with the photo complained about. Is it forbidden in this community to express solidarity with Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia in a way that is illegal under international law, i.e. criminal?" I have not yet received an answer.
This war of aggression was a crime committed by the Russian state from the very beginning, not to mention war crimes such as the deliberate murders of fleeing civilians or the Bucha massacre. Also the latest news testify to the criminal character of the Russian state: www.nytimes.com/live/2022/10/10/world/russia-ukraine-war-...
As the flickr staff hasn't replied yet, I don't know who brought my account to their attention. But I can imagine what kind of person this was: either a brainwashed person who believes Putin's propaganda to the letter, or the kind of Russian diplomat who in all seriousness calls a red paint bag attack on the entrance of the Russian Embassy in Vienna in protest against this war a "barbaric act" (as happened on March 6).
But what I don't understand at all and find extremely disappointing and disconcerting: that the flickr staff falls for this game and now threatens me.
The modern history of the library can be traced back to 1802, the time of the restoration of the Benedictine order. The first records referring to the library date back more than a thousand years, so except for a few interruptions, it is the oldest and most valuable art collection in the country. The library now consists of approximately 400,000 volumes compared to the original 70-80 codices. In terms of topics, the collection includes every conceivable scientific discipline. The language is more often Latin, but the books were also written in Hungarian, French and German. After the restoration of the Benedictine order, the library also made great strides, it began to prosper, and the collection reached its great size through purchases, collections and legacies. The Abbey, its library and its spiritual value was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
The Scottish Parliament (Scottish Gaelic: Pàrlamaid na h-Alba; Scots: The Scots Pairlament) is the devolved national, unicameral legislature of Scotland. Located in the Holyrood area of the capital city, Edinburgh, it is frequently referred to by the metonym Holyrood.
The Parliament is a democratically elected body comprising 129 members known as Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), elected for five-year terms under the additional member system: 73 MSPs represent individual geographical constituencies elected by the plurality ("first past the post") system, while a further 56 are returned from eight additional member regions, each electing seven MSPs.
Windows to the Soul - Right as it was getting very dark, this Bobcat approached too close for me to focus. This was the last frame that I took that is just cropped off the edges. I was shooting at ISO 3200 which is much higher than I typically go as it was so dark and I had to stop down to f/8 to get decent DOF at such a close distance. If you look closely, you can see my reflection in her pupil.
This is one of my favorite Bobcat portraits and it was such a wonderful experience because after this image, I stepped back and this Bobcat gave me a last curious look before beginning her hunt in the brush. Truly one of the most beautiful Bobcats I have ever seen, and I was wondering if the experience was even real!
All the empty trips and time invested become well worth it with such encounters. Something so gratifying about photographing completely wild animals at such close quarters on their own terms.

Rathaus underground station in Cologne, Germany
A pleasing contrast of midnight blue and silvery gleam
When completed, the new north–south suburban railway line in Cologne will have eight stops. While the last stretch of the line is scheduled to come into operation in 2016, Rathaus station has already proven itself fit for everyday operation. Located directly beneath the historic market, Rathaus underground station provides quick and convenient access to the centre of Cologne's historic Altstadt (old town) district, which was previously only accessible by bus.
The station, covering almost 3,000 m², lies 16 metres below ground. Its design is characterised by a fresh contrast of midnight blue and silver. A large proportion of the wall area is velvety-smooth blue, while the ceilings and certain sections of the walls are a shiny silver. The walls and ceilings are clad in hot-dip galvanised and powdercoated steel sheet modules, which are perforated in the ceiling area so that they also absorb sound.
Above the entrances, main traffic areas and footpaths throughout the station, WE-EF DOC240 recessed exterior downlights ensure excellent visibility and safety as well as aid orientation. The luminaires had to be integrated into various building situations – either installed in circular sections of the expanded metal ceilings or combined with an installation tube and mounted directly on the concrete ceilings. The DOC240 downlights in the underground station have proven to be versatile, not just in terms of the installation and mounting options, but also in relation to lighting techniques.
While the stairways and escalators are illuminated from a relatively high position, the height between floors in the main traffic areas is rather low. With different light sources in varying wattages – in this case HIT and CFL lamps, and two symmetric light distributions [M] medium and [EE] very narrow beam – the WE-EF luminaires provide exactly the right amount of light for the unique spaces.
All DOC240 downlights used in this project are fitted with vibration protection in order to extend their service life. Luminaires mounted at especially high installation positions are equipped with a device to lower the luminaire to facilitate ease of maintenance.

The Afon Glaslyn is a river in Gwynedd, north west Wales.
While not of great significance in terms of its length, it is one of Gwynedd's primary Rivers, and has greatly influenced the landscape in which it flows. It has its source in Glaslyn, a cirque lake on the flanks of Snowdon.

Adelpha butterflies are colloquially known as 'Sisters'. In terms of appearance they are reminiscent of the White Admirals ( Limenitis ) of Eurasia, and share with them a fondness for flitting gracefully around the lower branches of trees in the dappled sunlight of the forest.
There are 85 known species of Adelpha, all except two of which are confined to Central and South America. The butterflies are characterised by having a distinctive blackish marbled pattern overlaid on a brown ground colour; and by the presence of a broad orange or white band on the forewings. The hindwings of most species have a white median band.
Adelpha leucophthalma occurs as 3 subspecies distributed variously from Nicaragua to Ecuador.
This is a cloudforest species, found at elevations between about 800-1700m.

It seemed that the Ifach Rock liked to play with the clouds at late evening, when the sun went down. I made this image from one of the viewpoints of La Fossa Beach seafront promenade in Calpe (Costa Blanca, Alicante, Spain) from which the Queen and I could enjoy a lovey sunset :-).

This is another capture of a mature Bald Eagle in a banking turn but this time against a nice blue sky. I find when I compare the two shots that both eagles are using their wings exactly the same in terms of stretching the wings where the bottom wing is stretched more than the upper wing is as they turn.
Taken 1 March 2019 near Homer, Alaska.
The trail zig zags down the steep slope to the bridge over Oneonta Creek in the middle of this image. The forest is showing signs of recovery after the Eagle Creek Fire started by a 15 year old playing with smoke bombs on 9/2/2017. The fire burned almost 49 thousand acres of forest in the Columbia River Gorge area. The fire burned extremely hot due to drought and years of fire suppression and thus even trees which often can survive fire burned to death. $36.6 million in restitution was ordered along with almost 2,000 hours of community service. The boy has been complying with the terms of his sentence but will doubtless never pay off the restitution. Meanwhile the forest is starting to regenerate. The yellow leaves are from sprouts from the roots of dead maple and oak trees. Here and there are a few evergreen survivors. Some day this will be a forest again.
