Lebhaftes Treiben im Hamburger Hafen. Das mittlere Containerschiff wurde gerade zum entladen vertaut. Von der alten Fischauktionshalle fotografiert.
Lively hustle and bustle in the port of Hamburg. The middle container ship has just been moored for unloading. Photographed from the old fish auction hall
Vicka has come, the seer,
pale skin, crocheted scarf,
an other worldly calm
unexpectedly in their midst.
The cup of her hands pours
a blessing over them; she says
please kneel, listen to Gospoda,
oh, she weeps for peace
in an evil world, fast, pray
on Wednesday, Friday.
This waif, is she 16? –
so plain, her voice tremulous--
some forget to videotape,
some seem distressed
the Holy Mother
is less present
than usual and Vicka
will not take questions
this time about heaven
or life after life or the end,
which is sooner
than anyone knows:
long flight home,
nothing worthwhile to take
and someone, hopefully,
at the gate to meet them.

4th August 2015 - A night time view of the Seaforth Container Terminal taken from the roof of the ACL container ship 'Atlantic Conveyor'.
I met a local photographer here at the grain elevators, who told me that there is a pair of Peregrine Falcons that nest and hang out at the top of this building. I did not see them on this very windy day, but I did see a Bald Eagle on the other side of this building.

This is the roof construction at the airport in Hamburg at terminal 1. I really love the play of shadow and light, and the calmness. If you lowered the camera you would see a complete different picture. Hamburg Airport is the fifth-busiest of Germany's commercial airports measured by the number of passengers and counted 17,231,687 passengers and 156,388 aircraft movements in 2018.
When the other birds were flying around, this one just stood there in the same position for a long time at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. He looked so peaceful and relaxed.
Is he a Great blue heron?
Many thanks to all those who view, fav or comment my pictures. I very much appreciate it.

Lovely old barn, sadly condemned. There's a large crack down the right side wall which is a pity because it's in a quiet, pretty area near the river and could have been made into a lovely home.
An overview of Lehigh Valley’s Bethlehem Engine Terminal reveals a variety of power in various states of readiness. As an SW1 leaves the turntable and heads out to work, two RS-11’s are on one of the turntable tracks, and the cab of an RS-3 can be seen in the servicing area. Farther out on the servicing tracks, a set of C420’s is being reconfigured, while a Reading/B&O power set is on the ready track. This power came in on train NE-84, and will take NE-87 to Potomac Yard after it arrives in the Lehigh Valley.

Never did hear a symbol on this one, but the dispatcher referred to it as the "dinner train." Caught sight of the tail end crossing the MacArthur bridge on my way home from work, and thinking it was Amtrak, maneuvered to get the "going away" shot. A timely text from MM got me thinking about getting better locations, and this is the first of many.
The train is rolling up the Eads main in East St. Louis for Terminal's Madison yard. From there it will cross back over the Mississippi on the Merchant's bridge, then down to Market Street, past the Arch, then back to Union Station - Around the World.
In the right background is a southbound UP stack train waiting for the light at Q Tower, and on the far left, a KCS local running up the old Conrail main to CSX Rose Lake.

First generation EMD power is a rare sight on most Genesee and Wyoming shortlines, but the Golden Isles Terminal Railway in Brunswick, GA doesn’t disappoint. GC 1715 departs Colonels Island Terminal with an SW14 in tow pulling a long line of autoracks across Fancy Bluff Creek.
Built for the Norfolk & Western Railway in 1957 as a GP9, Georgia Central 1715 continues to earn her keep nearly 62 years later assigned to one of Georgia Ports Authority’s busiest Roll on/ Roll off terminals in the state.
