Photo taken just prior to driving down the switchbacks of the Moki Dugway. It was kind of tense at times around the narrow bends, but well worth drive for the scenery. - Mexican Hat, Utah

I spoke too soon in my last post; looks like I had another T007 chase up my sleeve. With an uncharacteristically diverse train consisting of four rip rap cars for Wauzeka, nine empty hoppers for United Boscobel, seven ballast cars for Boscobel, five Anderson Arena tanks, and three hoppers for Plastic Ingenuity in Mazomaine, T007 heads west into the setting sun with THEE QUEEN on the point.

Those Autumn skies were working their magic on this day; in Cross Plains the clouds cleared maybe 10 seconds too late. Fortunately, I was able to jump ahead to Scherbel Road where, after a few tense moments, the sun finally showed its face in full form.

What may be surprising though is that this is the first time I've shot this curve in the five years I've known the Prairie Sub. Normally, the foreground is filled with chest high weeds which obstruct the view. But for some reason they were mowed today, providing an unobstructed view. Luck was certainly on my side.

To the left is Festge County Park, which has an absolutely fantastic view of the valley. It also makes for a nice shot if you don't mind being on the dark side. That spot was another shot I neglected to do in years past until recently. One day I'll get around to posting that. With my time in Madison coming to an inevitable end, I've been trying to check off the shots I've passed off.

Ordinarily I'm pretty good at photographing wildlife without spooking it, but I had my dog with me, and these little moose were having none of it.

Imagine not having a computer. This is OLD. It was given to me in 1965 by the maker, who was studying to be an engineer at the time. It looks better here than in real life. Brighter, more distinct--highlighting how intricate and painstakingly crafted this is.

Wrecks in the Woods

This geometric abstract comes from a very mundane setting: the Glendale Galleria. I snapped a photo looking down the length of the shopping center's ceiling, which has a series of staggered arches. I cloned out a few ceiling lights and color-shifted the image to achieve this pale blue-lilac hue.

whilst taping up my living room windows to start decorating, i decided to use the paper to write some irregular portuguese verbs on so i could get familiar with them. they're not easy as they obviosly defy the rules of the patterns i've become familiar with so i have to learn them parrot fashion. i thought it would be a good way to add practice whilst i'm decorating the front room

Why do I think that living through WWII was less stressful, at least on the home front, than living through another Trump administration?

I've had Flynn for 6 years, this week! I well remember going to meet him, on a walk with his previous owners. I'd been told he had serious behavioural issues. I expected to find a subdued, suspicious & nervy dog. Flynn surprised me. He was outgoing, inquisitive & keen to interact with both his owners & with me. He found a ball from somewhere & got us all playing with him in turns. Flynn quickly won me over & a couple of days later he came home.

Within 48 hours, Flynn had bitten me. He'd been calmly lying nearby but I shifted slightly & he panicked. He bit my hand & bolted. I'd known Flynn was scared of being brushed etc but it turned out he effectively couldn't be touched at all & my hands moving terrified him. Feet were scary too & he'd be defensive if I stepped too near. He guarded his crate, his food. It was like living with an angry brown badger. Often, I'd despair & wonder if Flynn *could* improve, or it was even kind to keep trying, when he was so tense & withdrawn but then, we'd go for a walk. Outdoors, Flynn would be super sweet, playful & all he wanted to do was learn & do fun *stuff* with me. It was clear he had the potential to be a fantastic little chap. As Flynn continued to veer between extremes of behaviour, I slowly became convinced there was an underlying physical issue going on. It took 11 months but we finally found out the poor lad had a severely abscessed kidney. He had been in terrible pain for a long time & we were very lucky we got the kidney removed, before the infection killed him.

Since then, our life together has definitely had ups & downs! Flynn came home from surgery a far happier pup but by then, he'd learnt to fear things most dogs enjoy (or at least tolerate!). Flynn can still be easily spooked & is a grumpy grump at times but it's much easier to cope with, now he knows he can express opinions without biting! I've come to accept he's never going to be 100% "normal" & there are things we just work around. He's a good boy though, Flynn tries SO hard, every day, to work with me on things he finds difficult - he's made much more progress than I'd hoped for. Flynn is a quick, clever collie, with so much character... he makes me laugh every day. I love him to bits & wouldn't be without my little pal, quirks & all.
