This one little Indian Paintbrush is hanging out on a little bit of rock jutting halfway up a cliff face.
At a ravaged apartment complex, a tenacious houseplant uprooted by the storm had found purchase in the sandy soil covering a concrete slab and had managed to recover and thrive in the foreign environment. The blooms' vivid colors caught my eye in the midst of the bleakness, and I was astonished to see a somewhat fragile succulent plant doing so well among the ruins. Gives new meaning to "bloom where you are planted," I suppose...
This is another iris plant, at the edge of the waterline on the Georgian Bay shore here in Annan, and a tiny jewelweed plant.
We thought these had died off in a rare (around here) frost, but looks like it is trying to come back.

It's mid winter here in Japan and way past persimmon season.
With temperatures at night dropping to near freezing point, this persimmon should have given up it's tenuous grip on the tree weeks if not months ago.
Perhaps it is frozen to the branch?
