The typography of the characters is in bold and drawn in with a black shadow. The board that the message is written on is the back of a commercially sold sign - the embossed characters are visible from he shadows they create. Attachment to the witches hat is temporary as it is only hung with string.
They're finally gearing up to do the work on the crossing that's been promised pretty much since we moved in (and the reason we've had no bins for about six months).
INRD 4003 and INRD 3807 parked at the north end of the yard while the new facility is being finished.
Former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was assassinated in a bombing in 2005. Apparently they're waiting until a proper monument is built to formally bury him.
Rothbury Bridge was badly damaged in the bad weather in the previous winter, and at time of this shot was closed for major repair work. To join the two parts of Rothbury during the works, two temporary bridges were put in place over the river Coquet, a single track vehicle (on which a car is seen going away from the camera) and a pedestrian bridge compete with passing place.
As it was quite dark when we arrived in Mountain Lagoon, and I didn't have a tripod with me, I am surprised that most of my shots turned out sharp, albeit grainy. The light camera and lens combination is proving quite valuable shooting at low light levels.
It looks like the 35 f2 lens has some vignetting wide open. Need to investigate further.

I arrived, there was no traffic. Not very interesting. Bit of traffic arrived. Still not that interesting. Bloke with a wheelbarrow? Interesting yet?

Although I've seen many ice sculptures, I've never watched the artists methodically perfect their masterpiece in the waning moments of a competition. We watched one artist calmly recreate a piece of his sculpture moments before time was called after an icicle fell from the building and destroyed part of his design. Wow, he personified grace under pressure!

Temporarily out of commission until we get our DSL connection working again.
3:30 p.m. Update: Back up. ATT came and swapped the modem, which was still under warranty. Took forever because I couldn't find our user ID and password for the modem itself. The tech tried to reset it and that got us caught in an endless loop that took almost an hour to sort out, and by then I had found the scrap of paper where I wrote down the password. The tech says this happens al the time. He suggested I write it on the bottom of the modem, since we'll only need it if something is wrong with it -- and it wouldn't do anybody else any good even if they did find it. Seems like a good idea...
