For a long time the major role of post offices was the sending and receiving of telegrams. Members of the public would visit their local post office to write their telegram which would then be sent from the office. Telegram desks such as this one were often provided with special dispensers to hold the blank telegram forms.
This telegram is from 1939. It was folded up & tucked away in my grandparents' wedding book. The USS Sturgeon is one of the submarines my grandpa served on during the WWII era.
