China Telecom launch at the Landmark Hotel, Marylebone, London on 12th September 2006 with traditional lions for good luck.

 

They've launched their fixed line service to UK and Europe which allows faster broadband and website connectivity, apparently which will facilitate trade between China and Europe.

A much loved sight on the London horizon, but lamented for its removal from the tourist trail in 1980 after it was deemed too much of a security risk following a terrorist attack in 1971.

 

It was opened in 1965 and had a brilliant revolving restaurant at the top, which I can remember being taken to by my Nan as a teen! I say 'had' but in fact it's still in use for BT corporate events and it's still a major UK communications hub.
