The Synthesis Technology E340 Cloud Generator is just about to go into production. We should get modules in the next 4-5 weeks. This should be another unique oscillator amongst several that have been released recently. The price for the module is expected to be $299. LINK: www.synthtech.com/ .

The use of technology must have increased rapidly over the last year, in addition to using Flickr, I also use Zoom which I hadn't even heard of a year ago, but because of privacy conditions I could not illustrate it here.

Technology - High tech gadgets are great when they are working; but sorry to say...this is the guts of my broken laptop. I'm in a dark mood today.

I was given this bluetooth earpiece for Christmas this past year, and it has been very useful. For a bit of perspective, it has a diameter of 1 cm.

Things have advanced a bit since this model was the top of the line, but I honestly miss this type of phone. When you were angry with some one & hung the phone up, they knew what had just happened. Not like today where you aren't sure if the call was dropped or what. . .!

I haven't done a Technology Saturday for a while. I thought this was a good excuse. This is LADEE, or "Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer", a rocket NASA launched out of Wallops Island, Virginia at 11:27 PM Eastern Friday night. Not bad that I could see it all the way in Massachusetts.
As for the photo itself, sadly I almost forgot about it. I remembered at the last minute and had to grab my camera and tripod (and my 2 meter handheld for the hams) and run down to the nearby park. I didn't have the time to get the focus right, but at least I caught the rocket.

This is the Longbridge Technology Park on the Bristol Road South in Longbridge. Near the site of the former Longbridge car plant.
On the left is Two Devon Way.
The site was developed by St Modwen and Avantage West Midlands (who are also in charge of the rest of the Longbridge site).
Was this land once part of the former car factory?
Longbridge Lane is to the right of here.

From 1986 - 1999 Maxwell Technologies operated an Electric Gun Research & Development Facility (a.k.a. DNA 32-MJ Green Farm Test Facility), under the direction of the Defense Special Warfare Agency, Allied governments and commercial organizations, where they tested a high-tech electromagnetic rail gun that shot a large, plastic bullet-like projectile at extremely high velocities. The weapon was developed at Maxwell's Kearny Mesa facility.
With a barrel about 38' long, the rail gun used a quick burst of nitrogen to begin a series of electromagnetic pulses that would move a 9" space-age plastic projectile, with a silver-plated base, through the barrel at a tremendous velocity that could penetrate tank armor. It is being developed as a space-deployed gun that could shoot down objects, like missiles.
The gun is so powerful that a 1/5-scale test of the prototype shot through all of the sandbags and phone books placed to stop it - and went straight into the foundation of the Maxwell building! The first test of the full-scale version ionized the air so much that radar went down as far away as Lindburgh Field! Testing of the electromagnetic rail gun was subsequently moved to a remote New Mexico location.
