During NTEN's 2008 Non-profit Technology Conference a group of techies participated in several volunteer projects to bring technology to communities battered by the 2005 Katrina hurricane.
My group, comprised of consultants, non-profit workers, and Cisco Systems, traveled to a community center in St. Bernard Parrish to install wireless access points. St. Bernard Parrish was the hardest hit during the flood - only 6 houses were left standing out of 25,000 when the water rose 25 feet in 23 minutes.
It was an honor to be able to provide some help to this community and I'm grateful for the opportunity to talk with residents and keep the hope and momentum of positive work flowing.

High above the frolicking thespians,
High above the dormant audience,
Lives the reclusive lighting techies.
Armed with a wrench,
And walkie-talkies,
They vigilantly patrol the lighting grid,
Always aware of the treacherous drops that await.
Focusing red-hot lighting fixtures,
Wrestling with endless power cords,
And replacing burnt-out bulbs,
They receive no appreciation for their tireless effort,
But without them the show could never shine.

Publicity photos for the upcoming WHS production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". 5 lucky kids win "golden tickets" enabling them to tour the reclusive Willie Wonka's factory. The story's stereotypical portrayal of "good" and "bad" kids motivated me to present the cast as cutout from the background. They appear in ordinary, every-day dress because some of that good and bad is in each one of us. This week, I'll be shooting Willie Wonka and the Oompa-loompas in full costume.

When Trinity College students visited Barunga in the Northern Territory in September 2007 they were presented with a life-size papier-mâché freshwater crocodile. This is the work of Techy Masero. A gift to the College, the crocodile was created for the 2007 Barunga Festival.

Yo Techies, HELP!
Can somebody please guide me a bit about websites, HTML, Flash, CSS, mySQL, Wordpress, and some other techie mumbo jumbo? I've been trying to learn in the last few months and all I got are pieces of information I can't consolidate into a workable pattern! (Uh, what the heck did I just said?)
Please help me know what to learn (and in what order) and what books (or video) to get. I know it takes more than that but I'm so lost where to start and what to do next...
*Punkin' Junkin' Witch *
She is directionally challenged, but not techy so a GPS would not work. She uses instead her old car compass and weathervane for getting around. Everywhere she goes, other punkins give her colorful buttons because then she can be seen better in the sky and not get creamed by other flying creatures of the night--especially on Halloween. The orange minilights inside her hat and helpful reflector lipstick help also. She has a case of sinusitis, but her snottiness can be stopped in a flash with the handy faucet nose--(evolution has worked better for Punkins, doncha know. Wish I had that for my current cold.) The orange minilights inside her hat help also with visibility in flight. Punkin' Junkin' can just throw her flexible funky legs out and grab for a quick stop if necessary. (On the back is a sign: "I Brake For Junk."
