The quarterly technical challenge in 12 Months for dogs is to photograph your dog in three different moods, either shot or processed in three different ways and presented as a triptych.

Here is Taivas ~ proud, happy, serious.

'Proud' is processed using an action called '50s summer' by Isabelle Lafrance.

'Happy' is processed using an action called 'honey i'm home' by Nelly Nero.

'Serious' is black and white / selective colour.

Triptych done using a template by Kim Klassen with a couple of adjustments to the layers - changed colours and added a bevel edge to the inner layer.

The Tech Challenge hosted a record number of students this year. More than 3,500 local students competed in teams of 2 to 6 in 3 categories.

Teams were evaluated on 3 criteria: pre-performance interview, engineering log and device performance. A student from the Comet Blobz team reacts after a failed egg launch.

You are looking what is just in front of the plasma cells in a Pioneer Plasma TV. This was taken for a challenge group for tech in the last decade. Plasma TV although better than the LCD counter parts is no longer in development or offered by the manufactures :-(. A Sigma 30mm F1.4 + extension tube was used to capture this.

I have plans for this. [Update: Mission accomplished!] Although I've submitted it to 365 / Rogues I think that I'll probably pull it. View On Black

[ Bumped saturation and contrast, and compensated a little for the exposure. Oh and added vignette. So, nothing fancier than iphoto can do. Does that qualify for pSOOC? Lit with led torch and dolphin torch. The LED torch adds the shine on the shoes, and the dolphin for overall warmth. ]

The Tech Challenge competition distinguishes it from many other science-based programs for youth in grades 5 through 12. The Roosevelt Roaring Commets launch a raw egg in a ziplock bag toward the asteroid.

The Tech Challenge is designed to inspire the next generation of Silicon Valley innovators. Team Metal Lizard Meteorites used straws to create a cage around the raw egg inside.

For our last submission in 12 Months for dogs. This wasn't easy - holding the camera in one hand and getting far enough away to get Ashley in the shot but still being able to reach her with my free hand.

This is Cruise, my almost 8 year old, Longhaired Whippet. He is truly my best friend and shadow. I love him to pieces!

12 Months for Dogs 1st Technical Challenge...

THE CHALLENGE

1. Three photos - a triptych or collage ..

2. Three moods of your dog

3. Present each photo in a different style that best accentuates/complements that mood.

Just an Example:

Shoot your dog Happy, Sleeping, Worried

Shoot happy HDR, sleeping Soft focus & worried B/W.

Feelings/Moods of Cruise with cookies around ;-)

Sweet/Pleading... left in pale coloured background soft eye focus.

Mad... grainy B&W image with harsher tones to highlight his whiskers and vocalizing muzzle.

Serious... focused on his full mouth and eyes, B&W image that is plain besides the framing to make him pop.

I might have messed up the true triptych 3 panel flow (left to right) but I like the positioning of the 3 shots this way with the black backgroud I added.

Tech Challenge was an engineering workshop for kids where participants engaged in the design process to build a model for safely crossing and icy crevasse! It took place on Wednesday 12/28/2016 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. This program was a collaboration with the Tech Museum of Innovation and RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching).
