This is Addie, our Walker Hound. She did 52 Weeks in 2010. I hope to capture her amazingly dorky personality in 12mfd this year.
This challenge was awesome - lovin' this group already! :-)
This collage is for a technical challenge for the 12 Months for Dogs Group.
The requirements are:
1. Three photos - a triptych or collage ..
2. Three moods of your dog
3. Present each photo in a different style that best accentuates/complements that mood.
1 - Blase
2 - Sleepy
3 - Hopeful
This was created for the 12 Months for Dogs group. It is my answer to the Tech challenge for the 1st quarter of the year. The theme is the song "Anything you can do I can do better" and the idea is to find a photo from another member of the group and, with their permission, try to duplicate it as closely as possible.
Mine is based on a photo by LunaG. Titled "What would you do when you saw an animal, twice as large as you? Run away or greet it?" (I put the original in the first comment below)
This was definitely a challenge! But I knew I had to give it a try today thanks to the unseasonably warm weather (60's) and sun. Not sure when we'll see that combo again before spring!
So we headed out to the park where I knew there was a background as similar to the original as possible (given the time of year differences). And thankfully the sun cooperated by being in the correct location!
I had to hope that no one was watching after I set up my camera on a tri-pod, set the timer and ran out to pose for the two positions. I would compare the shot on the screen to a print out of the photo and then try again. It took multiple tries and even Dazzle was looking at me like I was a bit nuts by the time I got the ones I felt would work :-)
Then I moved the camera in closer, dropped the tripod down as low as it would go (lower would have been better) and got Dazzle into position. I took a test shot to check positioning and make some minor adjustments. Then, thanks to the awesome pro Dazzle is (and LOTS of luck!) I got his shot on the very first attempt!! I had set the timer and was standing in front of him, holding his ball down low (to get the focus of his head) and then asked for him to "gimmie 5" just before the shutter snapped. I used a flash on his shot so his face wouldn't be completely lost in the shadow.
I figured getting his paw in the desired position would take multiple tries, but when I saw the first shot on screen, I knew it was the one! And I LOVE IT when that happens! He got several throws of the ball and was VERY muddy by the end. But I didn't care! I couldn't wait to get home and do the editing. I was just hoping what I got would turn out as I hoped it would. And it has!
I layered the three photos, made the top ones translucent so I could position them and erased the backgrounds. I had to do some cloning to get the "over sized" pieces of grass off his foot, added the shadows and did a few other minor edits.
I think it's more impressive that the original was formed from 37 different photos! Thank-you LunaG. This was a fun project!
It 's Taivas' ninth birthday today and I those years have gone so incredibly fast. I've never regretted the day I picked up my 'naughty Miss Taivas' and brought her home to be part of our family. Three much loved dogs have gone to the rainbow bridge in those nine years, and sweet Tasku has joined us.
Taivas celebrates with a home made carrot cake, complete with cream cheese frosting - which she couldn't resist!
Studio 26 flash assignment - one last shot to add to my set.
I used a small aperture to darken the background, off camera speedlight through a small softbox to light Taivas.
Edit: I forgot to say that the flashhead was zoomed to 200mm.

An attempt for our quarterly technical challenge in 12 Months for Dogs, 'Make Me A Star'. The brief is to make our dogs a star, easily recognisable by most people. I've chosen to represent John Lennon's famous 'Imagine' album cover.
Two layers of textures (both by Kim Klassen), hues altered slightly on one and a black and white layer blended and then partly erased, blend mode for both is darken. Then I added a layer of clouds (cut from my own photo), blend mode lighten, some wispy clouds added with a freehand brush, a filter added to the clouds, various blend modes used and then a gradient layer to fade out the bottom right corner. Text added on three separate layers.
JL style specs came from play.com
Here is the original cover.
100 words #98 visualization
This was intended as my entry in our 12 Months 'make your dog a star' challenge (and may still be, if my other idea doesn't work!) but I didn't like that Taivas is such a small part of the poster.
A tribute to the wonderful movie ET but with Taivas (who is also 'ET') in the starring role :o)
Created from several different photos (all my own except for a clip art bicycle), layered using different blend modes and also some cloning and freehand brush work to change a witch weathervane into a little girl.

This is my first submission for Buster for the 12 months for dog group. The technical challenge was to create a triptych, outlining different moods of you dog, and to have processing that goes with them.
First photo shows Buster with a very subtle smile. Second shows his intensity, and the 3rd well...crazy/funny side!
This is for the "12 months for dogs" group, "Feelings" challenge...
Although Finn has many moods, most of the time he has the same look on his face, so getting a different expression on his mug can be a challenge! I bumped up the colours in the first to show his happiness, then made the 2nd black and white to capture the boredum, and the last I left natural. Fun challenge, and I think I did OK with it...
#1- Happy! "Isn't life just grand?! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and everything is wonderful! Have I mentioned how great you look today?!" Most of the time this is how Finnegan feels;)
#2- Bored... "Ho hum... I'm sure all my friends are out on walks, and doing fun stuff, and I have to just sit here? sigh..." Usually about an hour after we get back from a walk;)
#3- Anticipation... (the stare) "Are we going? Huh, huh, are we? Just say the word lady, and I'm ready!"
Group challenge: Feelings ~ three different moods & three different processings
Here is Mamie Nova enjoying her new life:
- yawning in green, color of nature, renewal and hope. Getting healthier each day, so her teeth will get cleaned very soon...
- playing in blue, color of freshness, serenity and discoveries. Enjoying small runs in the yard, loving to be outside and have fun.
- loving in red, color of love, warmth and life. Looking at us with such gratitude, we're so glad she crossed our lives...
My first attempt to meet the requirements of this quarter's technical challenge in 12 Months for Dogs. The first part of the challenge, set by our leader, Gentle Liz, is to do something I haven't done before - well I think I've done most things with Taivas so I haven't done anything new, also being restricted by the requirements of part two needing a long exposure. The second part of my challenge was set by Ann (ND Wind Twins) and is to take a picture of Taivas, in darkness and light painting her face. The third part, also set by Liz is to take that picture and process it in different ways. If I get time and inspiration I will try to come up with another version where I do meet the part one challenge requirements.
For the photo the room was in total darkness, having manually focused prior to switching the lights out. I had the camera on the floor and used the self timer and a small torch to light paint Taivas, keeping the light moving for the 5 second exposure.
Pic with bluish light top right is the original amd the others all done with various black and white processing and textures.
Template, textures and text brushes are all by Kim Klassen.
1,200 students convened this weekend for the Tech Challenge, mainly from California but with some teams from Canada and India. The goal is to retrieve the plastic waste from the sea as quickly as possible. The challenge is that the equipment has to fit in the 4’ cube Cargo box, be unpacked and assembled in under 2 minutes; the team has to stay behind the red fence, and the plastic bottles and caps are well over 8’ away. Oh, and you have to avoid touching the plants and fish.
The most common solution involved telescoping poles and sticky tape. The next most common approach used remote controlled rovers that collected the booty from ground level.
But near the end, a team dressed in pink unpacked an incredible cube of gear that unfolded and telescoped out like a Transformer. Here is the excitement as it swings into action. More below

The original picture. I took the picture with both the Rogues and CWD challenges in mind, and I hope this works. I've changed the taken on date to reflect the date I took the photo, rather than the day I edited it (February 3rd 2009).

cwd1072 - Super Bowl Ad Here in America, the biggest sporting event of the year takes place this Sunday. It's also the biggest event for TV advertisers. Since we're not doing video here, we're going to pretend that it's the biggest event for print advertising too. Create an ad that would be worth the insane amount of money advertisers pay to run their ads during the big game. Your product or service can be real of fictional -- but remember, we're talking big money! Your ad needs to jump out and grab people and make them want whatever it is you're selling. You're free to add text, etc. to your ad -- but it must include a new image taken this week. Also, if you choose to create an ad for a real product, be creative -- don't just steal an existing slogan. Make it your own! :-)
In this year’s scenario: “Asteroids Rock!”, an unmanned spacecraft launched from earth and landed on an asteroid. From there, it must transport three packages of delicate testing instruments to specified locations. Teams had to build a device that would launch raw eggs safely onto the specified locations. Many teams wore creative costumes.

This is for Buster and Harley's project. First photo shows contemplative/sad, second shows intensity, and third I think is their impression of a startled look....lol.

Group challenge ~ Three different moods and processings
Elliott is for sure a little character, we're never bored with him ;P!
So here he is peaceful, soaking up the sun on a comfy blanket (desaturated), determined to get that f#@@ing stick I was holding (b&w) and excited, thus barking at me because, well, I asked him to :) (colorful).

The Tech Challenge 2013 was held at the Tech Museum in San Jose, California during April 20-21, 2013. The Roosevelt Roaring Commets, dressed in harry potter costumes, get ready for the competition.
As the presenting sponsor of this year’s Tech Challenge, more than 160 Cisco employees volunteered at the event as judges and event support. Arun Sriranan, a software engineer at Cisco, helps with judging the student projects. He said the students were having a lot of fun and he wondered, "why am I not doing this stuff?"
