I found this in my old tech cupboard - an iPod generation 3 (16gb), first released in 2003. At first I couldn't find any way to charge it (I must have thrown out the charging cable in a fit of cleaning) but I remembered we still have a set of speakers that has a charging dock built in. It works fine, but the battery doesn't hold charge for long.
It was a pretty slick piece of technology for its day. It had more than enough capacity to hold all my CD collection, painstakingly ripped to iTunes. To have your entire music collection in one small unit was pretty amazing back then - to think you can now stream any song ever made through the Internet!

Midnight Matador, Texas Tech University’s longest-serving horse, died Tuesday (Feb. 3) due to complications from colic surgery. He was the 13th horse to ride for Texas Tech’s Masked Rider program and served for 11 seasons. The only Masked Rider horse to come close in length of service is Happy IV-II, who served an eight-year term from 1980-1987.
The Texas Tech University (Lubbock) mascot, The Masked Rider, traditionally rides a coal-black horse, and makes appearances at football games and other events.
My son attended Texas Tech from 2007-2012, graduating with a computer science degree. I had the honor to see Midnight Matador close up at Parent Weekend and at several football games.

Made during my father's childhood. As a BMW i3 hums by, a moment to reflect how tech evolution moves on. How much our perspectives change. Though some things don't seem to, like human nature and its pride, self interest, shortsightedness, ... We are currently in a global race to fabricate synthetic lives for ourselves, person-made everything, corporation and brand lead. But at heart, we're still hard-wired as human beings, and nature still exists out there. There must be a billion times the tech in any cell phone, compared to this car. Though I imagine that rolling across rural southern France before WW1 might have been more fun than any iPhone unboxing. Interesting that in areas like health science, in some aspects, we haven't move forward in the last century. Nor have our lifestyles. But each of us has some choice in what stars we follow, where our dreams lead us.
