A Food Truck & Technology Event in Downtown Orlando
Trucks & Tech is a mashup of two cultures that we love – foodies and techies. This is the only event around that combines discussion from leaders in the Central Florida tech community with top local food trucks to fill attendees’ minds and stomachs with the best of the best. For Trucks & Tech II: Trucktoberfest we have added a twist! This Oktoberfest themed event will feature German inspired food from each food truck, an all new Startup Alley, a costume contest and beer boots galore. So bring your lawn chairs, blankets and German spirit for a night of tech, food and fun.

I was asked to photograph a local variety show again, and as usual, it was a challenging but enjoyable experience. Oh how I envy those of you who have cameras that don't look like hot garbage above ISO 2000 ;)
Thankfully, a lot of acts used spotlights or reasonably bright lighting this time - no Gravely Ghost Walks performances or darkly lit dancing, so it was a bit easier to capture all the acts. I mostly used the 50mm 1.8 for simplicity's sake, but for a few of the monologues and more stationary musical acts, I broke out the 105mm macro and was pleased with the results. I should probably try to use it more often, but I try to keep lens changes to a minimum during the show.
The first annual Tech Camp finished up last Thursday at Central Campus. 22 hand-picked eighth grade students from nine DMPS middle schools gathered last week for three intensive days of collaborative technology instruction and presentation. Tech Journey, Inc. was formed to help students with limited resources pursue careers in technology.
“Tech Camp was a fabulous opportunity for these kids to meet real-world IT professionals and do hands-on work,” said Deb Mishak, the DMPS Gifted and Talented Coordinator. “They were exposed to everything from software development to an actual 3D printer this week.”
