Brandeis University workers gathered outside the university’s main entrance gate with State Rep. Tom Stanley, 32BJ SEIU Assistant to the President Roxana Rivera, and other supporters to demonstrate their determination to secure strong new union contracts before the fall semester starts. Even as students return to campus, roughly 450 direct and contract employees at Brandeis University are working without the security of settled union contracts. The rally brings together three locals of the Service Employees International Union – SEIU Local 888, which represents two librarian bargaining units; SEIU Local 509, which represents graduate students working as teaching assistants and research assistants; and 32BJ SEIU, which represents building service workers, including custodians, tradespeople and groundskeepers.
