Not much water flow this time of year in the dry season. The trees are melaleucas (paperbarks) which are usually found in swampy ground. These trees are often called tea trees and one day I should look up why they are called that. I don't think any bushman's drink was made from the leaves. I think maybe the tannin from the leaves causes a darker water sometimes in these swamps that someone may have thought looked like tea. Thanks to tanetahi, the green leafy stuff in the foreground is Stenochlaena palustris.

.....than my Zooie. He continues to do well. He's had a couple small issues that I've been trying to deal with "naturally". Zooie's been having some problems with allergies. He has very raw "armpits" on both his front and back legs. I've been washing his skin with antibacterial soap and then treating the areas with teatree oil and aloe. Unfortunately, I've been doing this for the last month and things aren't improving so I finally gave in and put Zooie on antibiotics. I've been givng him probiotic yogurt along with the antibiotics so I hope that helps keep his digestive system normal.
I'd appreciate any suggestions you have for treating skin allergies. Should I consider changing his food? He is eating Blue Wilderness formula with 40% protein, plus organic cottage cheese and flaxseed oil and two meaty bones a week. Do you give your dog any supplements when they are on antibiotics to combat the imbalance that results in their g.i. tract?
It seems the allergies come in the winter months and they also seem to be getting worse every year. Poor, itchy guy needs some help.

The tea-tree bush in our garden is in full bloom now, so the corner of our house where the bush is has been hidden by a beautiful explosion of blooms.
I typically upload in small sets - don't just look at the latest one in my photostream as you might be missing something you'll like more.... and your comments are ALWAYS welcome :)

I believe this is the Teatree Web Moth (Orthaga thyrisalis). The caterpillars have been making unsightly nests in our Callistemon “Brogo Overflow” and Leptospermum “Fantasia”, but being a bug enthusiast, I haven’t the heart to remove them (no good for our plants, I know! What is a naturalist to do?!). This one made it to adult form, but after a night of pelting, heavy rain, a fair few of the nests were washed off the Callistemon and were found in the ground beneath the shrub. (In this instance, nature kind of took care of itself!). [Lower Blue Mountains, NSW]
