La chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta
I primi documenti riguardanti Tatti risalgono al IX secolo negli inventari del vescovado lucchese. Nel IX e nel XII secolo, Tatti viene citato tra i possedimenti dell'abbazia di Sestinga e nel Duecento è nominato negli atti dei possedimenti Aldobrandeschi. All'inizio del Trecento fu conquistato da Siena e affidato alla consorteria locale dei Pannocchieschi di Pietra. Nel 1322, Nello di Inghiramo cede i propri diritti sul castello all'Ospedale di Santa Maria della Scala di Siena. In seguito il possesso passa ai Malavolti di Siena.
Agli inizi del Quattrocento, nell'ambito della politica di recupero della giurisdizione diretta della Repubblica, quest'ultima acquista i diritti sul castello dai Malavolti. Da questo momento le sorti del castello seguiranno quelle della Repubblica.
In piazza della Cisterna prospetta la chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta composta da un'unica navata con abside rettilineo. Il campanile a pianta quadrata è addossato alla muratura. La chiesa, così come appare oggi, è un rifacimento realizzato alla fine dell'Ottocento con l'ampliamento verso il fronte e una nuova facciata in pietra trachitica locale sormontata da un timpano.
L'origine della chiesa è comunque medievale; un documento del 1267 ricorda la pieve "de Sancta Maria de Tacti". La chiesa è inoltre ricordata nella relazione del Gherardini del XVII secolo.
The church of Santa Maria Assunta
The first documents regarding Tatti date back to the 9th century in the inventories of the bishopric of Lucca. In the 9th and 12th centuries, Tatti is mentioned among the possessions of the Abbey of Sestinga and in the 13th century it is named in the deeds of the Aldobrandeschi possessions. At the beginning of the 14th century it was conquered by Siena and entrusted to the local consortium of the Pannocchieschi di Pietra. In 1322, Nello di Inghiramo ceded his rights to the castle to the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala of Siena. Subsequently, possession passed to the Malavolti of Siena.
At the beginning of the 15th century, as part of the policy of recovering the direct jurisdiction of the Republic, the latter purchased the rights to the castle from the Malavolti. From this moment on, the fate of the castle will follow that of the Republic.
In Piazza della Cisterna stands the church of Santa Maria Assunta composed of a single nave with a rectilinear apse. The square bell tower is leaning against the masonry. The church, as it appears today, is a reconstruction carried out at the end of the nineteenth century with the expansion towards the front and a new façade in local trachytic stone surmounted by a tympanum.
The origin of the church is however medieval; a document from 1267 recalls the parish church "de Sancta Maria de Tacti". The church is also mentioned in the Gherardini report from the seventeenth century.
