Yesterday we had an interesting and fun tour of the Crops of the World Garden at the UC Botanical Garden. The horiculturist explained and gave us a tasting of some unusual cultivars. This is an old watermelon type--quite sweet. Seeds obtainable from a company that specializes in old varieties, Baker Creek. It was very tasty! The variety is called "Moon and Stars", introduced in 1926.

Bang-bang chicken, a street vendor's dish from Chengdu in the Sichuan province of China, is also known as “Bon-Bon chicken”. The names seem to have originated from when the chicken was pounded with a heavy wooden stick called a bon to tenderized/shred the meat, which would make a banging noise. It’s also known as “Strange Taste Chicken” because of the combination of unusual ingredients that produce a unique, salty sweet sour spicy & tingly (from Sichuan peppercorns) sensation! Here I served the dish with baby corn stir-fried in a little sweet chili sauce and fresh lime juice, and some stir-fried Chinese greens in oyster sauce ~ Epi

The day before we were to leave for our trip to West Virginia, our tree decided to blossom. Only got one day while we were going to be home to catch any shots. By the time we got home 5 days later, the blossoms were gone, so I was glad I spent an hour out shooting some action there.

BPC#37 -- Blythe & Rainbows

I've always thought these little cuties looked sweet enough to eat!

After a couple failed rainbow shots in other places, I went to the grocery store and bought a big bag of Skittles and a big bag of M&M's. Sorting the colors was the fun part (isn't everyone just a little bit OCD?) -- and then I took a white board, my bowls of candy, and my girlies out in the neighborhood and found some shade. It was fun to set this one up!

Bad Taste

Rei Kawakubo

Autumn/Winter 2008-2009

Dress of white nylon tulle and synthetic plain weave with black elastic trim.

The aesthetic language of street style has long fascinated Kawakubo. She often deploys it in periodic explorations of taste, as in the collection 'Bad Taste', which incorporated punk and fetish styles. Using textiles thought to be cheap, kitschy, and vulgar, such as nylon and polyester, the designer upends received nations of good taste and exposes inherent prejudices and bourgeois posturing in the precincts of elite culture.

This fox snake was about 5 feet, 175cm long.

It was captured, weighed, tagged and released in the same area all within a few hours.

Unfortunately they are a threatened species in our area.

Eastern Fox Snakes have a reddish head and a yellowish-brown body with dark blotches down the back and a row of smaller blotches along each side.

Fox snakes are good swimmers, and they have been recorded swimming over two kilometres between islands.

Taken at the outdoor cafe at the Olympic Sculpture Garden in Seattle. I was just taken by those red chairs, the "taste" sign in the background and that lonely coffee cup. It seems to just scream Seattle!

..a season special..

In reality a snapshot from a work on a summer café!

A self portrait series with a theme of colors and fruits. This project ended up taking a lot longer than I thought, and I must say the blueberries were the most difficult. Was a great learning experience though.
