Keighley Playhouse's production of 'My Fat Friend', by Charles Laurence, was performed at the Playhouse from Monday 13th to Saturday 18th June 2005. The director was Lorna Noble. This was the last production in the 2004/05 season of plays at the Playhouse.
The programme explains the set-up: "Vicky, a hampstead bookshop owner, is a heavyweight. She suffers good humouredly the slings and arrows of her two lodgers: James, a shy Scottish youth who longs to be a writer, and Henry, a not-so-young and not-so-shy homosexual who torments her as only best friends can. After a fleeting romance with a handsome bronzed customer who then leaves to work abroad, Henry, a hard taskmaster, bullies her to begin slimming. She succeeds brilliantly and becomes a shadow of her former self. When the handsome book buyer returns he is overwhelmed - but not in the way they had expected."
Gilly Rogers played the part of Vicky, with Geoff Whitley as Henry, Jamie Robinson as James and Chris Stocks as handsome customer Tom.
The 16-page programme is part of the Christine Broadley Collection, donated by Christine in 2024.

Today is the 100th anniversary of Thinking Day (or Founder's Day). We organised a District event to mark it, Taskmaster style challenges in the morning, then a disco. Over a hundred girls from all sections came and it was lovely to see the different age groups working together.
The lovely Laura (Janner from hitched) came in work mode and did the most on brand face painting on almost all of the girls (and a couple of the leaders!)
Emily and Katie organised the Taskmaster section (including the obligatory spaghetti and marshmallows building, it being a GG event ;) ) as part of their Ranger Gold award. Katie has one more part to finish, but Emily was awarded hers (only the third in the Division) by her leader and our Division Commissioner.

And to think, this day had such potential. Could have been a great snow day, but the cruel taskmaster I call boss decided it was safe enough to come in. Did get to spend quality time with Sammi.
Note: forgot my camera today so I had to use my phone. Not that bad, but not that good.

This Veteran makeover features one "tweak" and one "expansion". First, the "tweak": instead of being triggered when the creature attacks, Veteran now triggers whenever the creature deals damage. That means pings from Quicksilver Crossbow, or Battles from Squish the Wimpy, will allow the Veteran creature to get its buff on the turn it's played. This immediately opens up plenty of deckbuilding options and variations, inviting the player to really diversify their Veteran deck based on their playstyle. Crucially, it also means the design/deckbuilding space for Veteran isn't utterly beholden to Mournhold Taskmaster, which you'll see has received a change of its own.
The second change - the "expansion" - introduces Veteran effects for the player's second or third attack. In the case of Holgunn - depicted here - if a creature deals damage a second time, they'll get an extra +1/+1. If they deal damage a third time, you'll also draw a card. This addition gives players more to do and strive for the longer their Veteran cards are in play, and opens up some endgame options that weren't offered by the original Veteran cards. This change also fits right at home with the Pact's theme of surviving at all costs.
