Cobra troopers can be an unruly bunch at times. They aren't motivated by patriotism, unit loyalty, honor or sense of duty. It takes a brutal, unfeeling taskmaster to whip them into fighting trim and Big Boa fits the bill to a tee. He has a voice like a bullhorn, fists the size of frozen turkeys and the disposition of a rabid grizzly bear.
"Big Boa kicks open the Cobra barracks door at 0500 and makes everyone do the low-crawl up the mountain while pushing a bowling ball with their noses. Then, it's a twenty-mile run through the bramble thickets, more push-ups than you want to know about, and a two-mile swim upstream with flak jacket and helmet. After breakfast, he starts on the HARD stuff!"
The avian taskmaster allows no breaks, even if the effort will be ultimately fruitless.

being prepared for MOT and chassis cleaned with a Taskmaster steam cleaner I had delivered new to George Youngs a few days earlier
The Sage. Probably the hardest one to deal with. First of all I did not know what weaponry to give him, so I just made him a staff. Second, it took me forever to search for a white hood. And third there was no torso with a sun on it so I had to tap a picture of one on him. I'm very sorry, but I just think he will not look right without the sun on him.

I guess to no ones surprise, the solo movie Black Widow Hot Toy figure made its way into my collection. I guess ultimately I could have waited for it to drop to fire sale prices like I usually do, but 5 years might be a long time to wait.
Besides, there's still that Snowsuit version for me to win at.
So where to start - I guess by saying that this took a while, of course. Ordered the standard version through a dealer, as I didn't feel the Taskmaster shield warranted the extra bucks. Who knows - maybe Taskmaster (spoilers) herself will show up here one day.
As Hot Toys seems to have abandoned the art of rooted hair, this figure features hair in soft pliable plastic. Is it the most accurate reproduction? No, of course not - but I will say it's not terrible, and some effort was put into sculpting some strands of loose hair for that more dynamic look.
The face... well, it's a step in the right direction, considering the step backwards the Endgame one was. It's still off, but at least they gave her age appropriate facial detailing, as well as actually looking human.
Still can't touch that CW/IW sculpt, though.
Detailing on the suit is nice. This time around, the suit basically a decorated nylon body suit, which doesn't look too bad and is definitely a few steps above some of the third part stretch suits that end up looking like bad cosplay. However due to the various plastic/rubber parts, as well as the body itself, articulation as per a human being isn't fully realized. The only real improvement over the Endgame figure would actually be the arm, which are now pretty much unrestricted.
Paint work is on point, both costume and headsculpt wise.
Perhaps the most amusing aspect of this paint is that Hot Toys went so far as to paint her fingernails. Not flesh tone or lacquer to they would resemble fingernails. No - instead what we have is a conscious choice of.. it looks like a pearl copper or something.
With regards to Build Quality, it's kind of weird. The most complicated parts, the pistols and the batons, have all the functional parts you'd expect. The slide on the pistol with the scope doesn't feature a spring, so you can actually do photos of Widow with a spent pistol if you should so choose to. Detailing work is fantastic. You can even interchange the tips on the batons to suit your bludgeoning needs.
The new ankles, however, are giving me a bit of grief. Meant to improve articulation and general appearance when in a wide legged stance, I find these new ankles are kind of loose, and causes the figure to flop over with the slightest touch. She actually may not be safe if I leave her without a stand.
Perhaps the most baffling thing for me was the new gripping hands. In the past (i.e since CW) the fists that have held her baton melee weapons have basically been closed fists. Pretty standard stuff. Hot Toys, for reasons I'm guessing to fancy things up, gave this Widow a slightly more relaxed grip on her weapons - literally.
For whatever reason, the grip is too loose, and Widow cannot hold her weapons correctly. This makes for some interesting posing. I first thought this might be a thing due to desire not to cause paint wear, but then I noticed that the batons in Infinity War featured painted batons as well, and those are in a death grip.
My homework assignment.
AP is a harsh taskmaster.
We're now required to shred anything that could be traced back to a client, so my trash can has been very dull as of late.

Along with Taskmaster and a few others this figure has tremendous sculpting. If i learnt more about photography this guys detailing and POA's would make great for a comic book dio one day.

I doubt it has power steering and I doubt she has need of it.....
The sculpted quasi aerodynamic cowl in front of the drivers position is bit odd - I think I've seen similar on David Brown agricultural tractors that similarly had no need of wind-cheating embellishments.
4cylinder 2523cc puts out 37hp at 2200rpm which isn't masses for a four ton vehicle with a rated towing pull of 2.5 tons. Other sources give variants on these figures viz 26.5 drawbar hp at 1600rpm, 30.6 belt hp, at 1600 rpm, and a towing pull of 3.5 tons dependent, I guess on ballast and drive ratio.

Rena likely looked thinner and more worn than when he'd seen her last, though it was nothing compared to the drastic change in him. "Dealing with some Demons." she murmured. "You look like you could use some bacon. Lots...of bacon." There was a wry smile and she finally looked at his face. No pity there....only respect.
Damian nods .. the look on his face is one of understanding. "It's important to remember what's real when dealing with those Demons. Otherwise.. you can make some mistakes there are no solutions for.. " He flicks the ash off his smoke. "Recovery is incredibly slow for my liking.. apparently you can't recover from starvation by eating alone.. I have enough protein shakes to float a yacht.."
Rena blanched then made a face to cover it. "Steak...go for the steak. Has to be better than that protein shit." She started to say something else but bit it back with a shake of her head. "Bent but not broken? Eh?"
Damian tilts his head to the side. "As ever.. " he flicks the cigarette away. "My credits are on you.. " he says plainly .. he raises his left hand to waist height and opens it.
Vasha would move into the circle of Damian's arm..offering Rena a polite head nod in hello.
Damian slides a hand down under the thin material of Aravasha's outfit .. filling his hand with one of the cheeks of her ass and squeezing pushing her slightly forward. "If you dont feel better.. I will send her over.. she's a maddeningly sensible recovery taskmaster..."
Vasha offers an embarrassed little chuckle.
Rena's eyes went wide and she shook her head. "No...uh...er. That's nice and all but I have Masha. She's more than I can handle as is."
Damian shakes his head "I cant even imagine... " he says quietly.. "Have a good night.." He moves to Guin and slides his free arm around her giving her a hug .. looking over her shoulder at Oceania. "Thank you for coming by.. it meant alot to me.." he says to Guin while looking at Oceania. "It means a lot.. "
Oceania watches as Damian hugs Guin, her eyes meeting his look tho she keeps all expression from her face.
Guin straightens as Damian turns toward her, and is startled when he moves to hug her. She returns it easily, more carefully than she might normally. Yes... definitely stronger. The thought brings a real smile to her lips. "Anytime, you know that," she whispers, closing her eyes briefly. "I'm glad to see you're doing better."
Damian squeezes her in the hug. "I'll hold you to that... " He leans back and winks. "Have a good night darlin... " He moves away, his arm around Aravasha pulling her against him as he walks to the edge of the dancers.
Oceania watches Damian and Vasha move a bit away and steps toward the hay bales herself, leaning against them trying to look casual, muttering under her breath, "Well, that was fun."

I'm going to try a few Tarot card images. This is my 1st one, so be gentle. I know I should have started with 1 but I like The Hermit (and I can't find the sword I bought a few days ago).
The 9th card of the Major Arcana is The Hermit, who walks carrying a lantern and a stick; he represents meditation, isolation and silence. The card signifies crystallized wisdom and ultimate discipline. The Hermit is a taskmaster who uses conscience to keep others on their path.

For whatever reason, the grip is too loose, and Widow cannot hold her weapons correctly. This makes for some interesting posing. I first thought this might be a thing due to desire not to cause paint wear, but then I noticed that the batons in Infinity War featured painted batons as well, and those are in a death grip.
