Day 2 of Challenge :-
Yes, the answer for Day 1 puzzle is "grilled salmon". Hahaha fairygodmamao was wicked enough to mislead players into thinking it was CHICKEN!! It was no CHICKEN!! It was a FISH!! I think i m a "genius" like wad some nbors said. Lol. But Panda FunE is a greater genius. She saw through the trick first and gave me the right answer but at the wrong time!! What a pity!! Panda gave this right answer only after she posted her first. Uh oh! So sorry Panda. No changing of answer is allowed. So think carefully first before posting. I really enjoyed n lol over all the messages received. They r so funny. Caro couldn't figure out the second word. She too was tricked. Now shes looking forward to day2 puzzle. C'sBaby was totally stumped n asked for additional alphabets while Jace said his brain is working overtime. Bonnie said its too tricky while Bubs totally forgot about the game despite reminders. She's busy designing to meet birthday dateline. Too bad! 1 non nbor Grace took part but her msg dropped off my wall n I couldn't reach her. Searched all over, just couldn't locate her. Must declare her as MISSING together with those who did not give an answer! Hahaha. Ok. mamaos gonna be good today. Day2 puzzle is straightforward. No tricks. It's an occupation/job. Thousand congrats to you. Now, you must decide whether to accept the prize!! Hahaha. As for Panda, she too solved the puzzle in a jiffy. However, she was a little unlucky as she had no wifi connect soon after i posted puzzle. What a pity dear. Its also a pity that the leading player, bubs, did not reply. Again, she was busy designing to meet dedications. U r great bubs. C's Baby's great too. She was on vacation! But she still squeezed out time for this game! U r awesome. As for my dearest Bonnie, no extra pts for watering my trees!! Bribery not allowed! LOLOL. I must thank all of you for taking the time to play this game n making it so fun n enjoyable n more importantly, we r brought together like a big family. Captain America contre Hydra
We're redoing the fences at the barn and Simon had to find a perch and supervise all the poor guys who were digging fenceposts. ;)
He's rather a serious taskmaster when it comes to the barn. Horses there, strange men over there, thank you! :D
(Also I am doing the happy dance of software fix. Thank you Adobe, heh!)
BOOK 27
Echoes by Maeve Binchy
Growing up in a seaside town, Clare O’Brien and David Power shout their hearts’ desires into the echo cave, praying that their destiny will lead them far away from Castlebay, the small town in which they live. Years later, in Dublin, their paths cross again – David, following in his father’s footsteps, is studying medicine, and Clare has won a scholarship to University College. But eventually Castlebay draws them back – and it is against a backdrop of empty grey skies, sea-spray and wind that this drama of ambition, betrayal and love finally reaches its turbulent conclusion…
It’s the story of a young girl, her hopes, dreams and her determination and struggle to succeed. It describes life in a small Irish town during the fifties and sixties.
BOOK 28
Troubled Waters by Rosie Harris
She looked after them. But who would look after her?
When l4-year old Sara Jenkins rescues her baby sister, Myfanwy, from the fire, which kills their mother, little does she realise the burden of responsibility she is taking on. Her father, Ifor, is perceived as strict and moral by everyone in the village. But as Sara struggles to look after Myfanwy and their home she discovers the depths of cruelty he is capable of. Then Ifor remarries, and Sara's new stepmother is a hard taskmaster who considers everything Sara does inadequate or wicked. When she meets Rhys Edwards, nephew of the owner of the bakery where she works, Sara falls in love for the first time. Finally, she has a way to escape. Rhys and Sara plan to make a life together in Cardiff, but Sara finds herself alone, pregnant and destitute. She has to face the hardest times of her life and fight for herself, Myfanwy, and her unborn child, before happiness is finally within her reach...
The story has both likeable and very unlikeable characters and of how some have to overcome difficulties and sadness.
BOOK29
Light a Penny Candle by Maeve Binchy
In 1940 shy and genteel Elizabeth White, aged ten, is evacuated from Blitz-battered London, and sent to stay with an old friend of her mother's in Kilgarret, Ireland. There she meets Aisling O'Connor, who is loud and boisterous. It is the beginning of an unshakeable bond between Elizabeth and Aisling which will endure through twenty turbulent years of change and chaos, joy and sorrow, soaring dreams and searing betrayals… This is a story of the lives and loves of two women, bound together in a friendship that nothing can tear asunder – not even the man who threatens to come between them forever.
The storyline also deals with issues such as religion, domestic violence, divorce, alcoholism and social networks in Ireland at that time. A page turner
BOOK 30
Airs & Graces by Erica James
Ellen has been living on her own in a picturesque cottage in Cheshire since her husband abandoned her for the pleasures of Provence. Struggling to make ends meet and having married once for love, she is now determined that the second time around it will be for money. And why shouldn’t she be. Especially when so close to hand is Duncan, her not unattractive divorce lawyer, who is conveniently single as well as being enticingly rich. Encouraged by her elderly friend Hermione, Ellen sets out to secure her future.
Then two people enter her life: Jo-Jo a young homeless girl several months pregnant; and Mathew an artist who paints murals in country houses and who criticises her for being mercenary.
And they both know what Ellen will discover – you can’t plan love.....
The book, while being humorous, also carries a message, and a gentle reminder of what matters in life. I highly recommend this book.
BOOK 31
Bella of Bow Street by Carol Rivers
The story starts in 1941 in the Isle of Dogs. Young Bella Doyle and her brother Terry are neglected by their drunken mother and left to roam the streets, fending for themselves and skipping school. When her mother's boyfriend turns violent, Bella finds refuge with Micky Bryant, a local ne'er-do-well. After the war, Bella marries Mick and helps him run his business as a club owner and manufacturer of illegal hooch. But when her husband falls ever deeper into a life of crime, Bella finds herself out of her depth as she struggles to stay one step ahead of the law. While trying to cope with Micky's increasingly wayward behaviour she also has to control her growing feelings for his elder brother, Ronnie. It takes a shocking tragedy for Bella to realize that she must seize control of events in order to escape the squalor of the East End and shape her own destiny.
This story is well written and has many twists and turns. Definitely a page turner.
BOOK32
Your Place or Mine by Julie Highmore
When Bea’s husband dies, she decides not to be a lonely widow, rattling around her big Oxford house. Instead, she chooses three tenants, each of whom needs her help, and in return offers Bea more affection than her own distant son. Over the years they become something of a strange ‘family’, until the day they must find a new housemate.
Will needs a place to stay, and expects the usual grimy kitchen and sloppy students. Bea’s beautiful house seems too good to be true – until he meets the housemates. They’re all at least twenty years older than him, and range from outrageously camp to irritatingly raucous. But somehow he finds he’s taken the stunning spare room, and once he’s moved in it’s hard to escape. His sister, Harrie, falls in love with more than just the house when she comes to visit, and together they’re soon caught up in Bea’s final secret...
The story swaps between the past, when Bea was alive and the present, after Bea dies and the problems of her will. It shows the strengths and weaknesses that all people have with their lives and how some are brought to the foray by interaction with others.
A wonderfully warm and witty novel about building new friendships - in unlikely places...
The video quality is low, but if you watch closely, these kids are running really fast.
"Why can this mature pronghorn run so fast when there is no reason for it? Because it learned how when it was young and lived in a bad neighborhood. In other words, running fast, which is a property of the prehistoric pronghorn, is projected to the blend as a capacity of "the pronghorn", learned when young. The persistence of this capacity in the species is projected to the persistence through life of something one has learned young. Just as we do not forget the hard taskmasters of our schooldays, the mature pronghorn has not forgotten the cheetahs that taught it to run fast in its youth."

When I see people bashing Tiffany, I know its because they don't have the faintest understanding of her. They misunderstand her enthusiasm, her openness, her concern, her selfLESSness for selfISHness. This is ironic and tragic at the same time. If they could walk 10 steps in her shoes, they'd have nothing but admiration and love for her. I've been going down the list of the Soshi members, trying to understand the magic of 9 and I can say this. Tiffany is without a doubt Soshi's biggest fan.
Let me say again.
No one believes in the power of 9 more than Tiffany does.
Look at the road she’s taken. First she had to believe in herself, the power of 1. To take a leap of faith like she did, coming by herself to a foreign country, and fully embracing it. Think of what that means, the language, the customs, the food, waving a freaking lollipop (ask any valley girl to do that and you're risking life and limb, seriously), the culture of respect, you know none if it was easy. But she did all that, and then she climbed on top of a very precarious mountain, not by pushing others off, but by helping and holding tight to those around her. Really, this is something more than remarkable. What strength of character that took. What belief in herself, and her dreams that showed.
When they debuted, they were nine girls, some had been friends for years, but the long process of training together, of working towards a common goal allowed something singularly precious to form. A seed that would grow into Soshi. But by getting to the top with her sisters, Tiffany opened herself up to the people that would hate her, just for being different. Judging her because she’s somehow not worthy in their eyes. Her sometimes hesitant Korean is just a convenient focus for people already determined to not accept her. Some people have issues with her for being religious. Whatever. If that's a source of strength, good for her. In my opinion she personifies faith, optimism and hope. Is that so bad?
Even with that said, Tiffany is the member I worry about the most. She's a walking contradiction. Incredibly brave, strong and caring, she wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s utterly transparent, incapable of hiding what she’s feeling, hurt her and she cries, if she’s happy, she shines. And when she smiles, people melt.
No one is a harsher taskmaster of Tiffany than herself. Think about that for a moment. No barb, no cruelty, no criticism can make her work harder than she already does. She would welcome her worst enemy, and not defend herself. She'd take every curse and hate thrown at her and try to understand it and improve, even when she feels the pain more than most people with normal defenses would.
In interviews, she's almost always the first to answer a question, not because she wants the attention, NOT BECAUSE SHE WANTS the attention, but because she cares how Soshi is perceived. She won't protect herself, but she's fiercely protective of her family, her sisters, of Soshi.
On Hello Baby, it broke my heart when she felt she was rebuffed by the baby. With everything she’s been through, any connection she can make is more precious to Tiffany than her pride. Here’s the next lovable point about her. Knock her down and she gets right back up. Bleeding, bruised, it doesn’t matter. If she can, she’s perseveres. Please go re-watch episode 2, the first time she's picked as worst mom (I was so pissed for her. . .), where they're all in the living room. The only thing she looks at the entire time is Kyungsun. She must have cautioned everyone else at least a dozen times. “Be careful, be careful, be careful.” There’s slight vindication later in the series, when one of the honorary fathers, who was an actual father, awards Tiffany the best mom, BECAUSE HE’D SEEN EPISODE 2.
Because she’s lost people in her life, she fearful of losing anyone else, it’s always present at the back of her mind. She’s more aware of mortality and loss than the others. In Wonderful Outing, when Seohyun is doing the bar flip you’ll hear Tiffany’s “Jho-shim.” Be careful. When the girls went on Intimate Note, Tiffany was absent. Her grandfather had passed away in the States. I was really proud of the other eight because they did their best even though you know their hearts were with Tiffany, thousands of miles away. And yes, the KJE Chocolate show. If you’ve ever thought that Soshi was a manufactured product, with fake plastic dolls, go watch Chocolate. That’s our Soshi, those are the real emotions behind their professionalism. 9 young women who’ve sacrificed so much to entertain us. A stone would have wept.
In Chocolate, you see the other eight girls put their own loneliness aside and their concern for Tiffany is more than touching, it’s inspiring. Taeyeon worries about Tiffany a lot, because Tiffany, the one so many hate because they think she’s selfish, doesn’t take care of herself. She has no quit in her. The story about how she took her cast off early, because she couldn't stand to not be dancing with her sisters, that's Tiffany. Singing herself hoarse, every time, disregarding the health of her voice for live performances to the point where Taeyeon has to worry about it, that's Tiffany. Re-watch the interview that took place right after their solo concert. Look at Tiffany's face. It scared me, because she was beyond exhausted. Totally limp. She left it all out there.
The rest of the girls have the control to hold a little bit back, so they're not hammered flat, but Tiffany doesn't know anything less than 110% effort. She's not the best vocalist or the best dancer, but no one works harder than her.
Because Tiffany comes from a different culture, she adds a depth to the relationships within the group. Korea is a highly stratified culture. To be socially acceptable, everyone has to follow the forms of etiquette. Because she was unfamiliar with them she was an easy target. Oh, she's rude. Oh, she's ignorant. . . grrrr. (I'm saving up for a rant on the Korean predilection for being overly judgmental. . . emphasis on the 'mental'.)
But now, she knows the proper forms. Always greeting, always cheerful with that smile from heaven, that's Tiffany. The flip side to that is she knows how to break down the walls within the group. Within the group, she's the casual American cousin, etiquette be damned. That strengthens the already incredible bonds that we can see. She's a momma for Seohyun, an English tutor and sister for everyone else, wife to the Byuntae.
Lastly, to understand Tiffany, I think it's important to understand the scars she carries from losing her Mom. I can't begin to understand what that feels like, but I think I can appreciate her hunger for belonging. She said when she was a trainee, she didn't really think about her family, didn't miss them, didn't regret choosing this path. It was only when she debuted, when the prize was in front of her, that she felt the void. She knew then that achieving this monumental success was empty without someone to share it with. The years of ignoring and pushing away the need for a family really smashed into her. That's why we've seen her confront, acknowledge and finally accept what losing her mom did to her. You KNOW what Soshi means to her? Everything.
How can anyone not love Tiffany?
Just boggles the mind.

Home Children was the child migration scheme founded by Annie MacPherson in 1869, under which more than 100,000 children were sent from the United Kingdom to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. The programme was largely discontinued in the 1930s, but not entirely terminated until the 1970s.
Later research, beginning in the 1980s, exposed abuse and hardships of the relocated children. Australia apologised in 2009 for its involvement in the scheme. In February 2010 UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown made a formal apology to the families of children who suffered. Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney stated in 2009 that Canada would not apologise to child migrants, preferring to "recognize that sad period" in other ways.
History
As a labour source:
The practice of sending poor or orphaned children to English and later British colonies, to help alleviate the shortage of labour, began in 1618, with the rounding-up and transportation of one hundred English vagrant children to the Virginia Colony. In the 18th century, labour shortages in the overseas colonies also encouraged the transportation of children for work in the Americas, and large numbers of children were forced to migrate, most of them from Scotland. This practice continued until it was exposed in 1757, following a civil action against Aberdeen merchants and magistrates for their involvement in the trade.
Social reform
The Children's Friend Society was founded in London in 1830 as "The Society for the Suppression of Juvenile Vagrancy through the reformation and emigration of children". In 1832, the first group of children was sent to the Cape Colony in South Africa and the Swan River Colony in Australia, and in August 1833, 230 children were shipped to Toronto and New Brunswick in Canada.
The main pioneers of child migration in the nineteenth century were the Scottish Evangelical Christian Annie MacPherson, her sister Louisa Birt, and Londoner Maria Rye. Whilst working with poor children in London in the late 1860s, MacPherson was appalled by the child slavery of the matchbox industry and resolved to devote her life to these children. In 1870, she bought a large workshop and turned it into the "Home of Industry", where poor children could work and be fed and educated. She later became convinced that the real solution for these children lay in emigration to a country of opportunity and started an emigration fund. In the first year of the fund's operation, 500 children, trained in the London homes, were shipped to Canada. MacPherson opened distribution homes in Canada in the towns of Belleville and Galt in Ontario and persuaded her sister, Louisa, to open a third home in the village of Knowlton, 112 km from Montreal. This was the beginning of a massive operation which sought to find homes and careers for 14,000 of Britain's needy children.
Maria Rye also worked amongst the poor in London and had arrived in Ontario with 68 children (50 of whom were from Liverpool) some months earlier than MacPherson, with the blessing of the Archbishop of Canterbury and The Times newspaper. Rye, who had been placing women emigrants in Canada since 1867, opened her home at Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1869, and by the turn of the century had settled some 5,000 children, mostly girls, in Ontario.
Child emigration was largely suspended for economic reasons during the Great Depression of the 1930s, but was not completely terminated until the 1970s.
As they were compulsorily shipped out of Britain, many of the children were deceived into believing their parents were dead, and that a more abundant life awaited them.[9] Some were exploited as cheap agricultural labour, or denied proper shelter and education. It was common for Home Children to run away, sometimes finding a caring family or better working conditions.
Contemporary enquiries
CHILD EMIGRATION TO CANADA The attention of the Dominion Government has been drawn to the fact that the children sent to Canada from England are street waifs and workhouse paupers, and that the professional philanthropists engaged in the work are largely prompted by mercenary and not charitable motives. A demand will be made that parliament should investigate the matter before voting any money to promote this kind of immigration.
The Star, 18 April 1891
The emigration schemes were not without their critics, and there were many rumours of ill-treatment of the children by their employers and of profiteering by the organisers of the schemes, particularly Maria Rye. In 1874 The London Board of Governors decided to send a representative, named Andrew Doyle, to Canada to visit the homes and the children to see how they were faring. Doyle's report praised the women and their staff, especially MacPherson, saying that they were inspired by the highest motives, but condemned almost everything else about the enterprise. He said that the attitude of the women in grouping together children from the workhouses, who he said were mostly of good reputation, with street children, whom he considered mostly thieves, was naive and had caused nothing but trouble in Canada. He was also critical of the checks made on the children after they were placed with settlers, which in Rye's case were mostly non-existent, and said that:
Because of Miss Rye's carelessness and Miss MacPherson's limited resources, thousands of British children, already in painful circumstances, were cast adrift to be overworked or mistreated by the settlers of early Canada who were generally honest but often hard taskmasters.
The House of Commons of Canada subsequently set up a select committee to examine Doyle's findings and there was much controversy generated by his report in Britain, but the schemes continued with some changes and were copied in other countries of the British Empire.

A federal plaque marks Home Children immigration, a National Historic Event, near a house involved in the programme, in Stratford, Ontario
The federal government designated the "Immigration of Home Children" a National Historic Event, in 1999. A plaque from the national Historic Sites and Monuments Board commemorating the event stands in Stratford, Ontario. The Ontario Heritage Trust erected a provincial historical plaque to the Home Children the year before, in Ottawa.
After the apology by the Australian government, in 2009 the Canadian Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney, said that there was no need for Canada to apologise:
The issue has not been on the radar screen here, unlike Australia where there's been a long-standing interest. The reality is that, here in Canada, we are taking measures to recognise that sad period, but there is, I think, limited public interest in official government apologies for everything that's ever been unfortunate or [a] tragic event in our history.
The federal government proclaimed 2010 the "Year of the British Home Child" and on 1 September 2010, Canada Post released a commemorative stamp to honour those who were sent to Canada. In the province of Ontario, the British Home Child Day Act, 2011, makes 28 September each year British Home Child Day to "recognize and honour the contributions of the British home children who established roots in Ontario."

Where Is The Peace of Yesterday?
It crept away so quietly.
Or was it swept away
by the push of life's overlords,
the pull of the taskmasters -
the rush to do it faster - do it all
do it now - his way, her way
their way or the highway
robbery is happening here.
Stress steals the simple joys
from our species.
We're perplexed -
unpracticed, unsure,
don't know what to do
with the leftover bits.
The scent of sweet.
The touch of gentle.
The swish and sway of calm,
the wispy almosts that spiral around us
when we sit still long enough,
visits to us in dreams -
vague, remembered things,
of earth and sky
and trees.

My version of Taskmaster on the left, LEGO's version on the right. Theirs has torso printing, which mine is seriously lacking. BUT! Mine has the right color arms so I call it a wash.
Right after this picture was taken I broke them apart and combined them to have a more accurate comic version.
And yes, I am aware theirs is based off the cartoon and in the cartoon his arms are blue. But that's f*@#ing wrong so I stand by my statement.

Constitution-Making in Pakistan (1947-73) (Part I)
Dr Ghulam Nabi Kazi
APRIL 8, 2023
When Pakistan emerged as a Dominion of the British Commonwealth in mid-August 1947, its first and foremost priority should have been the development of a Constitution suited to the genius of its people. Unfortunately, that was not the case; it took us nearly nine years to approve our first constitution in March 1956 and to become a Republic, although subsequent developments were far more disillusioning. On the eve of the Golden Jubilee of the approval of the 1973 Constitution, let us explore the genesis of our troubles and discuss the circumstances and historical perspective in which the Constitution was developed and how it has benefitted us.
Following a consensus meeting with all the principal Indian leaders on Independence and the Partition on June 3, 1947, the Viceroy of India Lord Louis Mountbatten conveyed the entire plan to his government in London. Subsequently, on July 26, 1947, the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was notified with 69 members, which was later expanded to 79 members. Subsequently, Pakistan emerged on the world map in pursuance of the provisions of the Government of India Act, 1935 read with the Indian Independence Act, 1947 on August 15, 1947. The first session of Pakistan’s Constituent Assembly was held on August 10, 1947, and our Founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah was soon elected unanimously as its President and accorded the title of Quaid-i-Azam. On August 14, Lord Mountbatten flew to Karachi, participated in the Independence ceremonies and addressed the Assembly wishing Pakistan a long life, while he was inwardly working against it. At the stroke of the midnight hour the same night, Pakistan and India emerged as two independent Dominions in the British Commonwealth, Mr Jinnah took oath as the first Governor General of Pakistan on August 15, 1947, and worked far beyond his mandate. Mountbatten had wanted to continue as Governor General of both the new Dominions but while the Indians allowed him that courtesy, Mr Jinnah explicitly refused to allow such a position causing the former to lose his temper, which is documented. Thereafter, Mr Jinnah was always targeted by the Western media, however, due to Mountbatten’s duplicity – the worst of which was yet to come with the Radcliffe Award – and the state of his health, the Quaid-i-Azam chose to occupy this office himself for the remainder of his lifetime. Interestingly, when Lord Mountbatten asked him why he wanted that largely ceremonial office, he replied that in Pakistan he would be Governor General and the Prime Minister would do what he told him to do.
Meanwhile, it was a foregone conclusion that the interim Finance Minister and some other colleagues whom Mr Jinnah had nominated for the Government of India in 1946 would be inducted into Pakistan’s first Cabinet headed by Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan. And so the plan worked – Mr Jinnah presided over Cabinet meetings, decided on many matters personally and instructed his government to implement those decisions. He was a hard taskmaster but was also conscious of his frail health.
The foremost task of the first Constituent Assembly was to frame a Constitution as per the country’s requirements and Joginder Nath Mandal was chosen for the task of coordinating the process in his capacity as Law Minister. Mandal and his Indian counterpart Dr B R Ambedkar had earlier established the Scheduled Castes Federation in Bengal to ameliorate a lot of the lower castes.
However, while Dr Ambedkar could provide a constitution for India by 1949 duly approved by the Assembly, Pakistan was nowhere close to it. It is hypothesized that the Prime Minister who was in the constituent assembly on a seat from East Bengal feared an election and deliberately delayed constitution making. In his very first speech on August 11, 1947, Mr Jinnah mitigated the apprehensions of the minorities and assured them of a level playing field in the affairs of Pakistan. However, his speech was censored by Secretary General Cabinet Chaudhry Muhammad Ali and after Mr Jinnah’s death in September 1948, Liaquat Ali Khan emerged as a powerful Prime Minister of Pakistan. On March 7, 1949, he introduced the Objectives Resolution in the assembly, which mainly related to Islamization in Pakistan and represented a preamble for all future constitutions. Despite strong criticism from the minorities, the Prime Minister secured the approval of the House on it combining religion with statecraft because Pakistan had been created on the basis of religion. This was only six months after Mr Jinnah’s passing away and conflicting with the principles enunciated by him for administering the new state. Meanwhile, the life of Mandal was made so miserable that he resigned, left Pakistan and returned to his untouchable status in India in 1950, citing social injustice and a biased attitude towards minorities as his main grievances. Another major crisis occurred on October 16, 1951, when Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in Rawalpindi.
While Jinnah was head and shoulders above his partymen, the same was true for Liaquat after the former’s death. With the departure of both Jinnah and Liaquat in a little over four years, the country fell into the hands of mediocrity, all claiming to be superior to one another. After consultations, Governor General Khawaja Nazimuddin stepped down as the Prime Minister on October 17, 1951, with Finance Minister Ghulam Muhammad elevated as the Governor General. Decision-making reverted again to the Governor General’s office, but this time, to an incumbent lacking in integrity and scruples. Just when the final draft of the Constitution was prepared in 1954, the Governor General set the clock back by dismissing the Prime Minister in 1953 and dissolving the assembly in 1954. Both Prime Minister Nazimuddin and Constituent Assembly Speaker Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan belonged to East Pakistan and thus, an ominous signal was sent to the majority province. But worse was to come. In collusion with the Chief Justice of the Federal Court Muhammad Munir, Ghulam Muhammad’s action was upheld enabling him to continue his shenanigans with the tacit support of General Ayub Khan, the Army Commander in Chief.
The second Constituent Assembly was created on May 28, 1955, with 80 Members, 40 each from East and West Pakistan. Although East Pakistan had 54 per cent of the population of Pakistan, all four provinces of the Western Wing were amalgamated into one province to create a deceptive parity between the two wings. In hindsight, this appears to be the raison d’etre for enabling the Constitution of Pakistan in 1956. Choudhry Muhammad Ali had moved from his civil service position of Secretary General to Finance Minister and was the Prime Minister at that time. The Federal Constitution of 1956 was very similar to the one introduced in 1973 and could have been promulgated years earlier having there been a will to do so. It was passed by the Assembly headed by Speaker Abdul Wahab Khan and Deputy Speaker (later Speaker and President) Fazal Elahi Chaudhry on February 29, 1956, and after receiving assent from the acting Governor General Iskander Mirza was enforced with effect from March 23, 1956 – our first Republic Day, transforming Pakistan from a British Dominion to an independent Islamic Republic. Unfortunately, the focus of authority shifted to the shrewd President despite constitutional provisions to the contrary.
