HMS Cornwall's 20mm close range gun opens up with tracer ammunition during a night firing exercise.
The Type 22 frigate conducted night firings with it’s 20mm canons against a floating target. The firings were to keep the guns crews current in the operation and firing of the weapon system.
HMS Cornwall was the Command Platform for the Combined Task Force 151 (CTF151 being the counter-piracy mission of Combined Maritime Forces, a 25 nation coalition committed to maritime security throughout the Middle East).

Been busy last week learning how to make a traditional springback type ledger book. The first task was to make the paste papers that were to be used for the end papers and the outside covers. Then I had to fold and sew the pre-printed sheets. Thirdly was to create the foredge painted dots. Lastly I had to construct the springback and put it all together. Quite pleased with the result
Taking into consideration the height of a Giraffe, adults average over 6 metres, stooping down to drink water is indeed a difficult task.
The need to quench one's thirst overcomes all difficulties and they have to bend their front forelegs to get to the water. I saw this group of Giraffe's near a Dam inside Nairobi National Park. The mother was standing close by whilst the youngsters took turn to drink water.

Buckingham, 7 January 2021
New to Metroline
With English schools now closed other than for key workers' children, the usual assortment of Heyfordian and Marshalls vehicles didn't return after the Christmas holiday and this Langston & Tasker bus was the only one present in Buckingham lorry park, unusual as their depot is only a few miles away. Seven of these Presidents arrived from Ensignbus in 2014 for newly-won school contracts in this operator's largest-ever single purchase and none have ever received fleetnames.

A quick trip into Nottingham gave me the opportunity to see if I could add to my stranger count. It wasn’t long before my eye was caught by a colourful outfit of a young lady walking in the same direction as me, but on the other side of the paved area we were on. It only took a few moments for me to cross over to Sarah and introduce the project to her.
As the sun was out I knew it would cast dark shadows across her eyes from her hat so I suggested we go down a side street that was in the shade, the softer light making it easy to take Sarah’s portrait without having to worry about her eyes disappearing into darkness. A faded red door served as a perfect backdrop.
Sarah told me she was from Nottingham and had just been for a contact lens appointment and was now shopping for some black clothing as she was attending a funeral the day after I photographed her. Sarah said shopping for a black outfit wasn’t her favourite task as she preferred coloured outfits.
Sarah is self-employed, selling ethical clothing and jewellery and if I remember right all the items she is wearing in my picture are examples of her stock. You can find out more here: adorneduk.co.uk/
Sarah told me she is learning to play the drums and mentioned it was an electronic kit. Her preferred taste in music is the rock and alternative scene so it came as no surprise when I asked who her first star crush had been on that she named rock star Kurt Cobain, the singer from Nirvana. She then said she was heartbroken to discover he was already dead by the time she discovered him.
The one thing Sarah can’t live without? Peanut butter.
What advice would Sarah give to her younger-self? Don’t just dive in and get that first tattoo, take time to find an artist whose work you like and get them to do it.
Thank-you Sarah for allowing me to interrupt your day and for saying yes to me photographing you for my stranger project. I hope you like your portrait.
This picture is #165 in the 100 Strangers project, yes, I’m doing a second 100. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
