On New Year's Eve we went down to the family hunting cabin to do some target practice with friends. Mr Chiots wants to do this every month so he's ready for deer season this year. He's hoping to have 3 deer in the freezer after 2010 hunting season.

The California Least Tern is endangered species of migratory seabird that nests along the coast of California through Baja every April through mid September.

California Least Terns defend their nesting colony against predators by flying up into the air, calling loudly, and pooping on their target!

“At one point on Agena, near the docking cone and extended antenna, Scott will open a small, spring-loaded door to expose a micro-meteorite impact plate. On a subsequent Gemini mission—probably Gemini 9—it is tentatively planned to approach the dead Gemini 8 target craft, and another space-walking astronaut will retrieve the plate for earth study of meteorite impacts during the interim between flights."

Her photos are probably some of the best on Flickr. Thanks for being an inspiration, Lynn! Anyway, tell me what you guys think down below! Stay frosty, brs and broditas, and I hope you all have a great day! :)

Swifts live up to their name, so in the next frame (1/20s later) the bug was in the bird.

Target: NGC1499 The California Nebula in the Hubble pallet

The California Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. Its name comes from its resemblance to the outline of the US State of California (in this composition on it's side). It is almost 2.5° long on the sky compared with the the moon at 1/2°. It lies at a distance of about 1,000 light years from Earth. While evaluating individual images that were stacked, I found I had captured a 200km diameter asteroid 13 Egeria. It's located to the left and down from the brightest star, above and between the close by 2 bright

I was at the pistol range practicing some shooting when I looked down range and out stepped a doe and her twins. They don't seem to be afraid of the pistol shooting at all.

Also , at this time I would like to apologize to everyone who invited my previous images to the groups, and they are not there yet...

I am very , very grateful, and if my image is not in that group, it is simply because I think people have seen it a lot and I will wait some time to added it to those groups....thank you so much, you spend a lot of time doing this and I do appreciate that tremendously...

Ponte Sant’Angelo is a popular walking destination for both locals and tourists so finding it empty can be tricky. Obviously, there are always less people out first thing in the morning but that causes a nasty side effect… It’s f#$king early… So, if you cant stomach getting up early (I don’t blame you), prepare to paint some stuff out.

For this scene, I waited about 20 minutes and shot it 5 different times. By waiting, I was able to isolate people as far away from camera as possible. Far away objects are much easier to remove because they cover much less detail.

With cloning in general, you never have to make it perfect. You only have to convince the viewer that nothing is wrong with what they’re looking at. — It sounds simple but it’s true. — As long as nothing stands out, eyes will breeze right over it, especially if it’s background detail.

It can also be strangely therapeutic. With a simple brush stroke, you can paint someone out of existence… Man… If only I had photoshop in High School.

Redwing REDW (Turdus iliacus)

South Valley Drive

Greater Victoria BC

After seeing photos (online) of Redwing in Europe photographed on the ground (behaving like American Robins) i had it in mind to try to get a shot of this "Victoria bird" on the ground this season

Earlier this year i had seen it on the ground rummaging in the leaf litter (like a Varied Thrush) but no clear views for photos.

This particular morning after being perched higher up , it flew down & paused on a very low hanging Red Cedar Tree branch momentarily before dropping to the ground.

Excitedly i managed to get this shot.

woot a treat!.

Thanks to AnnN and the mighty Gatten for help

Later in the day i also enjoyed the recent North American vagrant to Victoria Area - BLPH..another JG find

There are places i'll remember

All my life though some have changed

Some forever not for better

Some have gone and some remain

All these places have their moments

With lovers and friends i still can recall

Some are dead and some are living

In my life i've loved them all

Given Empire was our main target I timed the aerial assault so CN would be loading. Well, on our first pass the second half of the empty train was there but no power. As we moved on to Eagle Mills I saw the light power going under a haul road just north of Empire so it was easy pickings on our return attempt. Here the train (U741) loads at Empire's Super Pocket (the original unused loading pockets are off to the right)
