Planning a trip to a unique location like a National Park can be challenging when finding the best spots for specific landmarks. The Court of the Patriarchs is one such location for me. On our first visit, I went to what I thought was the viewpoint, but I found it challenging to capture the location's essence. Since I thought that was the only location, I didn't even try on our second visit. However, on our last winter trip, I did some research and found a better view along the Virgin River. I headed out early, as the Patriarchs get the best light during sunrise. Although I had been to Zion before in winter, I had never experienced a cold front like the one I experienced during this trip before. It was a brutally cold morning, coupled with insane winds. While I usually spend a lot of time at locations like this, that morning, I couldn't wait to get back in the car and drive to our cozy hotel room.

Our VIP bus from Louang Prabang to Vang Vieng, Laos had to stop not too far into the journey because one of the motorbikes that had been stuffed on the roof had (unsurprisingly) fallen off. While the locals tried to stick it back using the time honoured method of man power, feeble ropes and cursing I took this picture of the village children who had come out to watch the show.
On the way back from my friend's house a week or so ago I realised that for once I was early for my train. Rather than wait for 20 minutes at the station cold and bored out of my mind I decided to grab a half at a nearby bar.
On trying to enter I was in a fortunately positive mood as the bouncer ID'd me. I thanked him kindly for knocking eleven years off my life , showed him my passport, observed his rather shocked expression and walked in. At the bar I was regarded with deep suspicion but they decided to sell me a half a lager anyway.
With only 20 minutes I decided to take some long exposure pictures of the crap flashy disco lights. After five minutes of enjoying myself yet another bouncer approached me and told me to put my camera away or leave. I told him that I was taking pictures of the lights but it was manager's orders. I put my camera away and left.
At the time I was in a good enough mood not to care but since then I have been rankled by this a little. I'm not a fan of this trend of stopping people taking pictures , it's leading somewhere bad.
I don't want to achieve immortality through my work; I want to achieve immortality through not dying.

This is two long exposure shots stitched together. Both pictures were taken during the same storm about five minutes apart. I think they've blended together very well.
i was lucky that the storm was away on the horizon because had the boat in the foreground moved it would have made blending the two pictures very difficult. As it is I am very happy with the result.

One of the nicest days I had in Cambodia was when I was in Kampot and I went off by myself to the river to take pictures . I wanted to take pictures and I was happily snapping away all on my own when a family turned up. They were lovely and although I speak no Cambodian and they spoke no English we had a lovely couple of hours just playing around and having fun.
I really like this picture. The children were so uninhibited and never posed nor shied away from the camera so every picture was a gem. This is one of the few where the little girl was looking at me and I think it's simply beautiful.
She and her brother were catching frogs.
