Localizadas en la meseta de Giza, a 18 kilómetros de El Cairo, las Pirámides no solo son los monumentos más importantes de Egipto, sino también los más antiguos del mundo. Se trata de construcciones funerarias que se edificaron bajo las órdenes de faraones de diferentes dinastías. Aunque no se conoce con exactitud la fecha de construcción de las grandes pirámides, se estima que las obras comenzaron sobre el año 2500 a.C. Entre los enigmas que envuelven tan preciados monumentos se encuentra el misterio de su construcción ¿Cómo lograron desplazar los enormes bloques y cómo se logró la construcción de tan perfectas estructuras en aquella época? Son numerosas las teorías sobre el tema.

Las tres pirámides principales de Giza son Keops, Kefrén y Micerinos. Además de estas hay otras pirámides menores.

Keops: Conocida también como la Gran Pirámide de Giza, Keops (Jufú) es la pirámide más grande, además de la más importante de todas. Cuenta con una altura de 140 metros y se erige sobre una enorme base de 230 metros (casi 1 kilómetro de perímetro).

Kefrén: La Pirámide de Kefrén es la segunda más grande de Egipto por detrás de la de Keops. Actualmente es la única de las pirámides que aún conserva una pequeña parte de su antiguo revestimiento de caliza blanca en la parte superior.

Micerinos: La Pirámide de Micerinos es la menor del conjunto, pero no por ello menos interesante. Cuenta con una altura de 66 metros y su base tiene algo más de 100 metros de lado.

Some morning shots in Big Bear Lake, CA

The spectacular Chestnut-Colored Woodpecker (Celeus castaneus) occurs from southern Mexico to extreme northwestern Panama. I have to say, this is the most beautiful woodpecker and possibly the most beautiful bird I have ever seen. This is a medium sized crested Woodpecker, 8.5 inches (21.5–24 cm) long and weighs 2.8–3.7 oz (80–105 gm). Overall, as you can see, the bird is bright chestnut-brown. The crest is a paler light rufous-brown, the underparts and back have extensive black chevron-shaped scaling. The male has a red patch on the cheeks that extends around the eyes. The female lacks the red cheek patch. The wing-tips and tail are black. The Chestnut-Colored Woodpecker primarily feeds on ants and termites. Less commonly, it also consumes fruit although the ones I saw did not approach the feeder with bananas.

You probably know that moment when you are driving your car, and suddenly something sticks out in the landscape you're passing by. Well, this is one of them moments.

I'd been hunting this scene for a while, and suddenly the stars aligned, the right winds blew by, and even the sun cooperated with the clouds, at the right time, at the right place, at the right temperature and day and mood.

These are sun rays just blowing through the very tops of a a spruce packed forest. Just hitting the top of this beautiful collection of bitch trees in the distance. Everything is frozen at the bottom, and the longer upwards you come, the sun has warmed it up.

The field where they are often observed, are very often in the shadow, and very easy to miss while passing by. But I did fell in love with these the first time I came through this area.

The conditions where perfect to bring out these very well known feelings of mood, and cold, and moist freezing air. And the colors matched so good there was no need to post-edit. The crop was the hardest. But, You really can't easily believe this is a middle of a winter catch.

Let me know if you think it's too fuzzy. I think it could be great on a wall making a pretty good mood setting.
