The Garden at 120 Fenchurch St. is a free-to-enter roof garden which is reachable via a lift and is just down the road from the Sky Garden. There is airport style security to gain entrance. It is a open to the elements garden and is not as high as the Sky garden but gives you a different perspective and some different buildings. You have to take pictures trough glass with all the associated reflection and dirty mark issues!

This is another photo was taken from the Sky Garden (20 Fenchurch Street / the walkie-talkie building) on a wet and foggy October day (flic.kr/p/2qrrod8).

Normally there are some spectacular views across the London skyline, but on this day the fog only cleared for a few minuits. During that time I managed to get this shot of the sun reflecting off of some of the adjacent buildings through a rain streaked window before they disappeared again, back into the fog (bottom left).

The Lloyd's building (sometimes known as the Inside-Out Building) is the home of the insurance institution Lloyd's of London. It is located on the former site of East India House in Lime Street, in London's main financial district, the City of London. The building is a leading example of radical Bowellism architecture in which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior.

Twenty-five years after completion in 1986, the building received Grade I listing in 2011; it was the youngest structure ever to obtain this status. It is said by Historic England to be "universally recognised as one of the key buildings of the modern epoch".

For viewers with an angle for architecture, the skyline panoramic sweep is (L-R) The Vase (a.k.a. The Tumescent Trouser Building), The BT Tower, Guy's Hospital, The Shard, Rupert Murdoch's News Building, Dark Ronnie's council block, and of course The Walkie Talkie. (See other pics)

A view of the North Bank of the Thames in London from Tower Bridge. The Walkie Talkie building (20, Fenchurch Street) which houses the Sky Garden stands prominently. Viewing east, the gold panicle in Pudding Lane of the Fire of London Monument can just be seen and then the dome of St Pauls Cathedral. The Post Office Tower is in the far left of the picture.

This long exposure photograph was taken from the South Bank of River Thames looking in the direction of the Bankside Pier and City of London during a windy and cloudy night. Amongst the buildings in the photograph, the 224m tall Leadenhall Building with its distinctive and tapering shape face, and the uniquely shaped Walkie Talkie Building with Sky Garden at its top levels stood out. A number of tower cranes seen on the left of the photograph were constructing the Bishopsgate building.

Sky Garden, 20 Fenchurch St, London

Our last stop of the day... 20 Fenchurch St or probably better known as the "walkie talkie" building. I've visited once before in 2016 but don't remember how high all the glass retaining walls were. This is not so much as shooting from the hip but more point, click and hope. I couldn't even see the image in live view but the blob of yellow gave me something to aim at.

20 Fenchurch Street - The Walkie-Talkie building - an insanely ugly building. From this angle I think it provides quite an arresting sight, but from a distance this has got to be one of the ugliest and most ill-conceived buildings in London.

Another shot of the Lloyd’s building from my recent London trip, this time looking towards the ‘Walkie Talkie’ building.

Again I went in tight to emphasise the differences in style and materials, and to provide something more abstract.

20 Fenchurch Street is a commercial skyscraper in London that takes its name from its address on Fenchurch Street, in the historic City of London financial district. It has been nicknamed 'The Walkie-Talkie' because of its distinctive shape. Construction was completed in spring 2014, and the top-floor 'sky garden' was opened in January 2015. The 34-storey building is 160 m (525 ft) tall, making it the sixth-tallest building in the City of London and the 12th tallest in London.

Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly and costing over £200 million, 20 Fenchurch Street features a highly distinctive top-heavy form which appears to burst upward and outward. A large viewing deck, bar and restaurants are included on the top three floors; these are, with restrictions, open to the public.

The tower was originally proposed at nearly 200 m (656 ft) tall but its design was scaled down after concerns about its visual impact on the nearby St Paul's Cathedral and Tower of London. It was subsequently approved in 2006 with the revised height. Even after the height reduction there were continued concerns from heritage groups about its impact on the surrounding area. The project was consequently the subject of a public inquiry; in 2007 this ruled in the developers' favour and the building was granted full planning permission. In 2015 it was awarded the Carbuncle Cup for the worst new building in the UK in the previous 12 months.

The tower at 20 Fenchurch Street was designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly in a postmodern style. The top-heavy design is partly intended to maximise floor space towards the top of the building, where rent is typically higher.

The building utilises double and triple-glazed panelised aluminium cladding on its exterior.

The 'sky garden' at the top of the building was claimed to be London's highest public park, but since opening there have been debates about whether it can be described as a 'park', and whether it is truly 'public' given the access restrictions. The garden spans the top three floors, which are accessible by two express lifts and include a large viewing area, terrace, bar and two restaurants. Fourteen double-deck lifts (seven low-rise up to the 20th floor, seven high-rise above the 20th floor) serve the main office floors of the building.

The south side of the structure is ventilated externally to improve efficiency and decrease solar gain, whilst the east and west faces incorporate extensive solar shading. There is a southern entrance in addition to the main northern entrance set back from Fenchurch Street.

The Walkie Talkie building in the City of London is a fluently curved building. In 2014, it made headlines for reflecting sunlight at an intensity that melted parts of a Jaguar car in the street below.

City Hall.

City Hall is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority (GLA), which comprises the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. It is located in Southwark, on the South Bank of the River Thames near Tower Bridge. It was designed by Norman Foster and opened in July 2002 at a cost of £43 million.

Next to the ‘City Hall’ is an area called ‘The Scoop’ which is used in the summer months for open-air performances.

Today there is a display of Tracey Anderson’s photographs of a project by Lorraine Maher celebrating mixed race Irish people and to question the concept of 'Irishness' and what an authentic Irish identity means for Irish communities today.

The picture was taken from the Sky Garden of the Walkie-Talkie building, aka 20 Fenchurch Street.

The views from the Sky Pod Bar over London are truly spectacular, so what better than to book a Saturday morning breakfast there and enjoy the hub-bub and surroundings on a gloriously sunny day?

The skyscraper at 20 Fenchurch Street, nicknamed the "Walkie-Talkie" due to its distinctive shape, was completed in Spring 2014 providing office space in the financial heart of the City of London. The top three levels, which are open to the public, comprise floors 35-37 - otherwise known as the Sky Garden here you'll find an airy open space with stunning viewing areas, a bar and restaurant.

The building stands 160m or 525' tall making it the sixth tallest in the City of London and 12th tallest in Greater London. No prizes for guessing that one of those standing higher is "The Shard", visible in the distance on the south side of the River Thames.

Another shot from my trip to London. On the left is the "Walkie Talkie" which is wider at the top than it is at the bottom, clever idea! On the right is the "Gherkin". And is the middle is the "Cheese Grater". I love the names people give these skyscrapers!
