A type family originally developed for New York’s Whitney Museum, Whitney contends with two different sets of demands: those of editorial typography, and those of public signage.
Typefaces for catalogs and brochures need to be narrow enough to work in crowded environments, yet energetic enough to encourage extended reading. But typefaces designed for wayfinding programs need to be open enough to be legible at a distance, and sturdy enough to withstand a variety of fabrication techniques: fonts destined for signage need to anticipate being cast in bronze, etched in glass, cut in vinyl, and rendered in pixels.
While American “gothics” such as News Gothic (1908) have long been a mainstay of editorial settings, and European “humanists” such as Frutiger (1975) have excelled in signage applications, Whitney bridges this divide in a single design. Its compact forms and broad x-height use space efficiently, and its ample counters and open shapes make it clear under any circumstances.

Typography. "Comic Sanz" Text for the Company's name. Started by creating a background with a brush and just switching over colors. Added the Globe and used the sketch filter on it. Added the "Art Land" Text and used the Bulge Transform text tool. Finished it by adding contour and a drop shadow. Played with each letter by altering it to achieve a sense of roundness around the globe. After that added a brush on the letter A and D.
The tag line used stroke and arched it around the globe.

The idea is a contour map of text. The text reading "They don't love you like I love you" are lyrics from the Yeah yeah yeah's song "Maps"

Along one of the paths I frequently walk, there are several exercise stations that consist of some piece of equipment--in this case, an inclined, playground-like board--and exercise directions. There are two things I notice every time I see a sign. The larger text--it looks like Helvetica Neue Black or some sort of Helvetica Black to me--has held up well over time where the directions themselves, set in what appears to be some form of Garamond (my best guess is Garamond 3 by Linotype), have worn away where the glyphs are thinner. Over time the serifs and substantial portions of letters are gone. It's still readable for the most part, but it's not pretty. This is, in a phrase, why typography matters.
Cable Thief is the new typeface from Studio Disjointed that forms as part of an obsession with typography and the overhead power cables found across the rail network.
In the UK the theft of cable from rail networks has become a widespread problem that costs the network financially but also impacts directly on those using the service for travel.
The typeface is an experiment that looks at aspects of itself that are missing, the fragility of the font is held together by cables and pulleys. Without these the typeface would collapse.
