This is an experiment with typography as an attempt to create closely-fitting letters with basic geometric shapes. A texture will be applied to this design as the next entry of the daily design project.

Canvas and Clay logo - screencastle.com/watch/0a5dc296d3d16d40161be9f2beea5be2

This is the logo for my husband's art business that showcases his paintings and pottery.

The word Canvas is in a light California Impressionist script. Clay is in an Art Deco looking script.

They are both in black with a drop shadow so that your eyes will be drawn to the painting in the background.

The painting wasn't large enough to cover the logo so I copied the last bit of it and pasted it with a mask.

I used a colored bar with dropped opacity to highlight the tag line California Impressionist Artist Robert Lechner,

which I wrote in a sophisticated looking elegant script, to reflect those qualities on the art.

A misprint on the spine of nearly bibliophile book about theoretical typography in author's name is quiet an unusual thing.

This is a typography experiment with symmetry as the main focus. It took a few trials to tweak the letters in order to make the design symmetric overall, which is also applied with the anaglyph effect that everyone seems to like.

The first of many lettering exercises.

3rd round of exploration geared towards developing in-camera techniques for animating motion graphics to arrive at a less mechanical, more organic and optical feel, but with a process that provides flexibility for content control. No compositing is used here, no photoshop manipulation. My constraints are exposures no longer than 30 seconds, all typography and imagery is composed and exposed during that duration.

The next round will deal with registration issues, color and further exploration of foreground / middleground / background shifting of elements.

This picture introduces my San Francisco Typography project. I'll try to post a new photo every day of a notable typographic specimen found around San Francisco.

This is a fading, hand-lettered sans-serif sign, on Hayes at Divisadero, from the days before digital typography cemented Helvetica's ubiquity. Check out the 'a' and 'z' in 'specialize'.
