Tui is a name of the indigenous bird in New Zealand, and also a local beer brand. I found this men's XXL size T shirt in a thrift shop, and made it into a skirt. Inspired by Sew U Home stretch book.

With the weather beginning to perk up and longer days coming up, it is good to get out and about again; Birmingham Airport in particular is getting busier and sees a lot of variety especially with the winter travel season.
Whilst by no means the largest carrier at Birmingham, TUI Airways operations has been long-standing from the days of Britannia Airways which later became Thomsonfly, not forgetting First Choice that was merged with TUI AG in 2007 which saw both airlines being incorporated into Thomson Airways in late-2008, being TUI Airways since late-2017. The carrier competes with an expanding EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair.
Since TUI Airways took delivery of their first Boeing 737 MAX back in late-2018 (over 6 years ago), the carrier has amassed as a sizeable collection with deliveries ongoing allowing the elder Boeing 737-800s to be returned back to their leasing companies. Despite their influx, TUI Airways has taken on second-hand Boeing 737-800s from other TUI-owned airlines, or different carriers to expand their short-haul network.
Even today, TUI Airways still have a sizeable order of Boeing 737 MAX 8s and the larger Boeing 737 MAX 10, albeit there is no timeline for when the first of latter will be delivered.
Currently, TUI Airways operates 55 Boeing 737s, which includes 32 Boeing 737-800s and 23 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. TUI Airways have 21 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 18 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.
Tango Uniform Oscar Alpha is one of 3 Boeing 737 MAX 8s operated by TUI Airways, delivered new to the carrier on 24th January 2025 and she is powered by 2 CFM International LEAP-1B27 engines. She is named after France's 4th largest city, Toulouse.

The Tui is one of New Zealands favorite endemic birds, with it's beautiful song, striking iridescence and signature white 'pom pom' throat feathers.
Male Tui has attracted a female. He had been puffed up and singing for almost an hour before a likely candidate arrived and listened to his proposal. She must have liked what he had to say as they flew off together.
Ok. I've been walking around with a camera glued to my hands for just over two years. These Tui birds have always proved tricky to catch. They always seem to position themselves silhouetted against the sun. Finally got one in a more open environment!
Up to five tui are fighting for control of the sugar-water feeder in our backyard, though most of the aggression is shown by two of the larger males. The smaller females, like the one in lower-left, take their chances to sneak in for a drink when the boys are distracted. The yellow crowns on their heads show they're also feeding from flax flowers in the garden.

For the past coupe of years, TUI have a history of shuffling its fleet... TUI Airways in the UK has often been the recipient of brand new aircraft, although demand and thus retirements have lead to transfers across all subsidiaries.
Whilst TUI Airways continues to benefit from brand new Boeing 737 MAXs, the carrier has also benefitted from receiving Boeing 737-800s either from other TUI Group airlines or from different carriers not affiliated to the said group. It is worth mentioning that TUI Airways Boeing 737-800s are all dry-leased, withdrawals of earlier types mainly came about as leases were not renewed.
Very recently in just 2024, TUI Airways have received 5 Boeing 737-800s, 3 having originated from other TUI Group subsidiaries whilst a further 2 examples arrived from other sources, notably Norwegian Air Shuttle and Transavia France.
It is interesting to see the UK being a bastion for second-hand Boeing 737-800s in recent years, thanks to not only TUI Airways receiving examples to bolster their fleet, but so too by Jet2 who have continued to receive examples from other airlines.
Currently, TUI Airways operates 53 Boeing 737s, which includes 33 Boeing 737-800s and 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. TUI Airways have 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s and 14 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.
Tango Uniform Kilo Victor is one of 33 Boeing 737s operated by TUI Airways, delivered new to ArkeFly (now TUI fly Netherlands since 1st October 2015) on lease from RBS on 2nd March 2009 as PH-TFB, later leased from SMBC since June 2012 then transferring over to TUI fly Belgium on 30th January 2019 as OO-TNB gaining the name Wanderlust and later being leased from Aircastle since March 2019. Now operated by TUI Airways since 18th January 2024 on lease from Aircastle, she is powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-7B26 engines.

I could spend hours watching these tui birds in my kowhai trees :-) There seem to be at least three in that one tree most of the time, and I do love their song!
