On 23rd March 2013 the family favourite Cedar of Lebanon fell after heavy winter snow.
Thanks to a donation from Chirklands National Trust Association, the celebrated wood sculptor Simon O'Rourke was commissioned, and this design was chosen.
It commemorates the centenary of the start of the First World War and was completed in May 2014.
A new Cedar of Lebanon was planted by the Myddleton family nearby.
I took a photo of the sign :-) HBM :-)

If you are on Facebook, this gives work in progress photos - it took 2.5 days of effort, over a longer period time as a saw broke down.
7-story Mr Robinson apartment building at Robinson Avenue and Park Boulevard, Hillcrest. Developed by Jonathan Segal, FAIA and completed in 2015, it includes 36 apartments above first floor commercial space, including the Trust restaurant.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of it round at the moment, and for good reason. But it is a very necessary commodity for a healthy society. So I would encourage more people to give it a go - after some critical thought.
The girl in the photo seems to have a good deal too much of it, on the other hand, and might find herself swept away by some unscrupulous lascivious handsome man intent on a night of wild passion with no thought for the following day.
If she's very lucky.
In your leader. I was totally rapt with these two horses. Wherever the leader would go the follower would follow. It had complete trust in the lead horse not to lead it into a hole. An amazing thing to see.

Thursday we went to the Clergy House in Alfriston, Sussex, and snapped 4 chairs for my National Trust chairs project.
The property was the first to be purchased by the National Trust in 1896. Up until then, the NT had only acquired land for use by one and all.
It took us half an hour to earn his trust. First came a she, who hesitated. She went and brought her mate/friend who showed more valor and courage.
Shot on full manual - loved this experience of engaged photography
Was in my sister's computer room today and turned around to see Frodo "wedged" under her chair, sound asleep in front of her heater.
He often nestles under her chair, but today he was actually under the leg of her chair. Just goes to show how much he trusts us.
Sweet kitty-dreams little boy. You are a source of endless joy to both my sister and me. And the occasional photo op doesn't hurt either.

Looking down an avenue of trees the glasshouse at Clumber Park draws you in. It wasn't for me but Shirley was drawn to the display of 130 varieties of rhubarb.
I like to think that if you can find yourself so completely naked and exposed to another being yet feel completely safe, accepted, and loved as you are then you've found something priceless. When it comes to that bond, its as close to perfect as can be. There is an absolute trust; unshakeable and powerful yet so pure and beautiful. This is your safe place; a place you can truly be yourself where your souls speak and no words are needed.
