Today is really not my day. I've been wanting to shoot with film again for so long and today I wanted to get some film for it. Last year there were none at all, today they cost about 3 times as much as before. So here are 108 treasures in my hand. And shortly after I took the photo, the camera fell down and now my lens is broken.... Either I start the day over again or we quickly jump to the next :D - day 14
A few years ago my grandfather passed away. He was an avid gardener, he took his gardening very seriously and I always enjoyed seeing his rows of perfect tomatoes and peppers. The summer that he passed away he had grown sunflowers that soared upward, a whole row that eventually grew as high as the roof with big heavy flower heads on top. After his service my grandmother asked us to cut one down, it was beginning to lean and she was worried it would crash through the window. My brother cut away at it with an axe, like Jack and the beanstalk as all my cousins and family watched. Once it fell, we carried it out to the grass and I remember sitting in quiet solitude picking out the seeds to give to my family, to grow our own giant grandpa sunflower. Every year when the sunflowers are in bloom it reminds me of him, of my family, and that moment. He is my sunflower in September.
Smile on Saturday: Money Box
This is the only money bank with a coin slot that I have -- it's just a little dollar store item that originally came with candy in it. I kept it for photography purposes and have ended up using it a couple of times now. The coin in the slot is a special edition Loonie (Canadian one-dollar coin) commemorating Canada's 150th birthday in 2017.
This week's Macro Mondays Group theme of "Buttons and Bows" reminded me of a simpler age, many years ago when buttons were saved for reuse and Granny's, or Mum's Button Box became a favourite children's plaything, often being re-imagined as a pirate's treasure chest, a shop's till, or just an intriguing kaleidoscope of memories, shapes, textures and colours!
So, this is my entry for the theme, as one man's trash is another man's treasure! HMM
Here's a shot of Treasure Aisle's, a nifty little used book and comic store. One time a shop lifter tried to make off with a cassette, and the owner grabbed where the neck meets the shoulder. Soon he coughed up the cassette and was begging for mercy. the only problem was that the shop lifter was on one side of the counter, and the owner on the other. He had to let go of the culprit to come around the counter to pound him into the floor. They both disappeared out the front door, and I guess that kid ran fast, because the owner couldn't catch him; fear does that to people. The owner left the rest of us to watch the store, and of course we did--but not through fear. Was the owner right to get mad and violent? Of course. You and I didn't have to pay his taxes, his rent, his utility bills, etc. That store was a free bazaar for compulsive thieves. The store and the building are gone now, and the site is under the Sterling Apartment Complex.

I have a new found love of sea urchins! They are so pretty and i never realized there are so many patterns and colors...along with the sea glass from my collection they make a nice pairing...add a little driftwood and what i think may be a Dolphin vertebrae along with some sea pottery and a unique shell and you have what i think is a rather pretty still life shot.
All these treasures were provided by nature... and i enjoy them more than bling and fancy things. They represent peaceful times, the outdoors, the ocean, nature, the tides, serenity, joy, tranquility and the ability to recharge my batteries! Of course i have to purchase the urchins...i have yet to find any in NC, other than in the store...
the sea glass was found by me...the sea pottery was a gift...the shell also....the dolphin vertebrae was found by my son in law...i have it because ....well....let’s just say he has not missed it yet!!!
(Shhhhhhhhhhh!) I ADOPTED it, when my daughter said she was going to throw it out!!!!!
I hope you all had a great start to your week, and that it at least stays even keel for you to the weekend! I also hope it does for me too...i have Dilbert Pickles and Dudders the Muppet Dog until Kiera gets home from the city tomorrow afternoon! :)

It was over cast tonight and I was going through some old photos from August 2014 and liked this one. Taken on Treasure Island North point. Kids will play and stack up rocks in the shallow water as in the image.

Less than ten months before my father died he showed me the contents of a black metal box. This was one of the hidden treasures, my grandfather's pocket watch.

Even at that exciting moment it carried me back to the old 'Admiral Benbow' in a second, and I seemed to hear the voice of the captain piping in the chorus. But soon the anchor was short up; soon it was hanging dripping at the bows; soon the sails began to draw, and the land and shipping to flit by on either side; and before I could lie down to snatch an hour of slumber the Hispaniola had begun her voyage to the Isle of Treasure.
