The Ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) is a mammal of the raccoon family (thus not actually a cat), native to arid regions of North America. It is also known as the ringtail cat, ring-tailed cat or miner's cat. It is easy to domesticate, thus some people make them pets.

This ring tailed cat was caught in one of our traps during our three day trapping episode. We caught many smaller rodents in small mammal traps as well.

This buck was trapped for the night in our yard. Desperate to escape it kept looking for a way out.

'The Trap Grounds are a three-acre reed-bed and three acres of scrubland, grassland and woodland lying between the canal and the railway line in North Oxford. Efforts to save the Trap Grounds from destruction date back to the mid-1980s, but the concerted campaign to register the site as a town green began in 2002.' It was a long and difficult campaign but finally in September 2006 it ended in success with the Oxfordshire County Council voting to register the Trap Grounds scrubland as a town green. The reed bed is already a Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation so the entire site, home to scarce and priority species (water vole, bullfinch, spotted flycatcher, turtle dove, song thrush, linnet, skylark, reed bunting, buttoned snout moth and many others), is now protected.
