# Immanuel Kant is one of the influential German philosophers of his time. He was born in the Prussian city of Königsberg, which is today's Kaliningrad located in present day Russia.

# He is known for his ideas in the fields of Epistemology, Ethics, Metaphysics and Logic.

# His 3 major works are : Critique of Pure Reason (German: Kritik der reinen Vernunft), in 1781 which was his Magnum Opus; Critique of Practical Reason (German: Kritik der praktischen Vernunft), in 1788 and Critique of Judgment (German: Kritik der Urteilskraft), in 1790.

# His philosophy on ethics (Kantian ethics) is considered central in Deontology. His major work, Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (German: Grundlegung zur Metaphysik der Sitten), in 1785, explained his philosophy on morality.

# He believed himself to be a compromise between the Empricists and Rationalists of his time and thought that human understanding of Metaphyics can be enhanced or bettered through our study of Epistemology, which is the study of the nature of human knowledge.

# Kant's ideas are studied as Kantianism, and include ideas such as the Categorical imperative, Transcendental Idealism, Deontological Morality, Synthetic A Priori, Noumenon, Schema, Sapere Aude, Nebular hypothesis.

# Though not regarded as a Political Theorist, Kant used his ideas to expound some political views like the classical republican theory which was explained in his work Science of Right.

# The Kingdom of Ends is another thought experiment of Kant which he explained in his work Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals. His is a hypothetical kingdom based on his idea of morality taking shape from the Deontologically moralistic idea of the Categorical Imperative.

That was such a good evening, walking around Newcastle taking pictures.

I don't really 'do' going-out. Y'know, drinking, dancing- whatever the cool kids do these days. You'll very occasionally find me in a pub, but it's a rarity. Instead, I love to explore new places and find myself in the quiet corners of the hustle and bustle.

This being a Tuesday evening, even the Tyne Bridge was a quiet place, which I much prefer when I'm taking photos. I'm certain this isn't an unusual view for photography, but hopefully I've made it my own.

Used in my OCA course, Art of Photography, Assignment 5.

I saw the hawk in Boundary Bay and he looks like a wise bird. I consulted him about the art of seeing.

Man: Photography is art of seeing. What is the Tao of seeing?

Hawk: Take a higher viewpoint. Take a transcendental viewpoint. Have the philosophical way of seeing. Don’t look at the superficial qualities of a scene.

Man: What is meant by philosophical?

Hawk: Philosophical is about asking the right questions.

Man: How do I know if I ask the right questions?

Hawk: You won’t know. Just keep asking like what you are doing here!

Man: ?????

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know. – Diane Arbus

[...]

How does light become matter

and then condenses into earth?

If the cause is infinite

What then is the nothingness

which limits the infinite cause

without itself is destroyed?

Since the beginning of my journey

with every question

the answer never seemed closer

Even before me

for what is behind everything

the ancient Canaanites looked for

The liberating realisation

I finally found

with Socrates in

liberation of knowledge

What once seemed little

Is now the most sacred claim

He is this, in the now

No, no, the name

Irlanda - Kinsale - Fuerte Charles

ENGLISH:

Charles Fort is a star fort located on the water's edge, at the southern end of the village of Summer Cove, on Kinsale harbour, County Cork, Ireland. First completed in 1682, Charles Fort was sometimes historically referred to as the "new fort" - to contrast with James' Fort (the "old fort") which had been built on the other side of Kinsale harbour before 1607. The fort is now operated as a heritage tourism site by the Heritage Ireland arm of the Office of Public Works.

Charles Fort was built on the site of an earlier stronghold known as Ringcurran Castle. The Ringcurran defences had featured prominently during the Siege of Kinsale in 1601.

The new fort, which is named after Charles II, was designed by the Surveyor-general Sir William Robinson - architect of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Additional site structures are attributed to engineer Captain Thomas Philips. The fort was built between 1677 and 1682 to a star fortification design; a layout specifically designed to resist attack by cannon. It became known as the "new fort" - to contrast with James' Fort (the "old fort") which had been built on the other side of Kinsale harbour between 1602 and 1607.

With a focus on seaward defence, the landward and inland bastions of the fort are overlooked by higher ground. This weakness was of critical importance when the fort was subject to a 13-day siege in 1690 during the Williamite War in Ireland. John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (then 1st Earl) besieged Cork and captured Kinsale and its forts. Repairs were made following the siege.

An early lighthouse was established here in the 17th century by Robert Reading, and additional works (including the development of internal "citadel" defences) were added through the 18th and 19th centuries.

The fort remained in use as a British Army barracks for two hundred years afterwards, before being relinquished by British forces following the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921. The fort fell out of use after being burned by retreating anti-Treaty forces during the Irish Civil War in 1922.

The complex remained largely derelict for some time, but was named a National Monument of Ireland in 1971. Over the coming decades several sections of the fort were restored by Dúchas, the Irish heritage service. Restoration and development of the complex was later taken-over by the Office of Public Works (OPW) - including the development of an exhibition space in the former commander's quarters.

Awesome cloudscape! I rarely see clouds like this and when I do I usually don't have my camera. So today was pretty special!

The Mosaic Montage Monday theme is "Pi Day".

3/14, is Pi Day, a day to celebrate the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Pi, also written as the Greek letter π, is an irrational transcendental number. That means it can't be written as a fraction, and its decimal places continue forever.

This piece of digital art combines sections of two previous digital pieces, an extruded letter Pi (filled with the actual number itself) and an old photo of mine of the RMIT Desgin Hub building that has it's entire outer surface covered in circular discs.

When I was at school I memorised Pi to 15 decimal places, and can remember it to this day 3.141592653589793 ......

In the photograph, a serene yet powerful moment unfolds as the priest stands by the banks of the Ganga in Rishikesh, moments after the evening Ganga Aarti. Draped in traditional saffron robes, his face reflects both solemnity and grace, illuminated faintly by the lingering glow of the aarti flames and the deepening twilight. Behind him, the river flows with gentle determination, and the air is still heavy with the fragrance of incense and the distant echo of devotional hymns. The priest’s posture, calm and composed, captures the spiritual intensity of the ritual he just performed — a custodian of age-old tradition in a setting where the divine meets the earthly.

The Ganga Aarti is a sacred Hindu ritual performed daily at dusk on the banks of the Ganga, especially in Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Varanasi. The ceremony honors Maa Ganga, revered as a living goddess whose waters are believed to purify sins and bless devotees with spiritual liberation. In Rishikesh, the aarti becomes an immersive experience, where flickering oil lamps, rhythmic chanting, and collective devotion merge into a transcendental spectacle. It is not merely a ritual but a symbolic gesture of gratitude, reverence, and surrender to the cosmic flow represented by the holy river.

The epic significance of the Ganga dates back to the ancient scriptures, particularly the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and is rooted deeply in the Puranic tale of Bhagiratha. According to legend, King Bhagiratha performed severe penance to bring the celestial river Ganga down to earth to cleanse the ashes of his ancestors and grant them salvation. To prevent the river’s mighty descent from destroying the earth, Lord Shiva caught her in his matted locks, letting her flow gently to the plains. This mythological origin imbues every aarti with layers of divine history and spiritual meaning — a ritual act that continues to bridge the heavens and the earth every evening on the ghats of Rishikesh.

Scenes from the edge of the world - The Lizard, Cornwall 2004-2017

A magnificent hand made rock sculpture seen on the beach at Poltesco, Carleon Cove, The Lizard, Cornwall. Poltesco was the site of the main Serpentine stone turning works in the 19th Century. Taken on one of our many holiday breaks on The Lizard back in the spring of 2013.

From my blog today :

At its most transcendental level, landscape photography becomes an almost spiritual pursuit. Watching the elements of earth, sea and sky interact, you are confronted by higher powers whether you believe in a higher entity or science. To take this analogy a step further, does a person pray because they have faith or because they expect results? Is the success of a morning outing dependent on whether the photographer bagged a shot or not? What is the best measure of how good a workshop is? The number of images added to a portfolio. How much you learned? Or perhaps how much you enjoyed it?

A Transcendental Glacial Dew-filled Wildflower Morning! This image was taken at Clear Lake in the San Juan Mountains near Silverton, Colorado. I've been uber excited all year to photograph Colorado's Wildflowers at their peak. Mainly looking forward to photographing wild Columbines with a mountain backdrop, I was as giddy as a school-boy when I discovered this lake-side field of beauty. When I finished for the morning, I had breakfast in Silverton and posted to Facebook, "There's nothing like breathing morning dew in a field of wildflowers at sunrise by a reflective glacial lake at 12,000 feet!" My good friend Loren "Happy Om" Baum replied, "...Dew is magic, glacial dew is transcendant!"

I was indeed floating!

Franz Liszt called one of his Transcendental studies for piano "Feux follets", referring to the mysterious flames in legendary tales which allegedly led travellers to their doom. Nothing that dramatic here, but nonetheless a stunning display of light from thousands of dewdrops and spider webs on the heather.
