On the left hand of the Virgin Mary, the second from her (in the photo, the first on the left), a handsome old man with a long gray beard - a tireless researcher of Kyiv shrines, the cathedral archpriest of St. Sophia Cathedral Pyotr Lebedintsev, a teacher at the Richelieu Lyceum, an archaeologist and historian, a connoisseur of Byzantium, a highly educated person, appears as a wise old man, frozen in majestic calm.

On the left hand of the Virgin Mary, the third from her (in the photo, the second from the left), in the image of the Apostle Luke, the young apostle, has an undeniable resemblance to Vrubel himself. According to the icon-painting tradition, this place was usually assigned to the Apostle Luke, who was not only a disciple of Christ and an evangelist, but also an icon painter, the author of the first pictorial image of the Mother of God. It is symbolic that Vrubel sees himself in the place of Luka, that is, in the place of an icon painter.

In Abrahamic tradition, Eve (Hebrew: Chavah) is recognized as the first woman, created by God to be the companion of Adam and the mother of all humanity. Her narrative, primarily found in the Book of Genesis, serves as a foundational story for understanding human nature, morality, and gender roles across Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Origin and Names

Creation: According to the "Yahwist" narrative (Genesis 2), Eve was created from Adam's rib (or "side") while he slept, intended to be an ezer kenegdo—a "helper corresponding to him".

Etymology: Her name Chavah is derived from the Hebrew root for "living," signifying her role as the "mother of all living". Adam initially calls her "Woman" (ishsha) because she was taken out of "Man" (ish).

The Narrative of Eden

The Fall: Living in the Garden of Eden, Eve was tempted by a serpent to eat from the forbidden Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. She ate the fruit and shared it with Adam, leading to their immediate realization of nakedness and subsequent expulsion from paradise.

Consequences: As punishment, God pronounced that Eve would experience pain in childbirth and be subject to her husband, while Adam would toil for food from a cursed earth.

Legacy: Eve is the mother of Cain, Abel, and Seth, as well as numerous other sons and daughters.

Religious Perspectives

Christianity: Often focuses on the concept of Original Sin originating from this event. Eve is sometimes contrasted with the Virgin Mary, known as the "New Eve," whose obedience to God is seen as undoing Eve’s disobedience.

Islam: The Quranic version depicts Adam and Eve as equally responsible for their transgression, and both are forgiven by Allah after they repent.

Judaism: Traditionally emphasizes the story as a "wisdom tale" explaining the harsh realities of life and the nature of moral choice rather than a doctrine of inherited sin.

Folklore and Modern Reclamations

Lilith: Jewish folklore (e.g., The Alphabet of Ben Sira) introduces Lilith as Adam’s supposed first wife who left Eden after refusing to be subservient, though this character does not appear in the biblical text.

Feminist Interpretation: Modern scholars have sought to reclaim Eve, viewing her not as a "seductress" but as an archetypal figure representing female agency, motherhood, and the transition of humanity into a state of moral consciousness.

Many boats sail on Victoria Bay in Hing-Kong, but none of them are as spectacular as the Aqua Luna, her red sails and small lights make her the most famous Chinese sailing boat in Hong Kong.

The Aqua Luna was built from scratch; it took a Hong Kong craftsman 18 months to construct using traditional shipbuilding methods under the supervision of a 73-year-old shipbuilder.

- In the winter it has always been a good Dutch tradition to skate and afterwards drink a hot choco cream or eat a bowl of pea-soup with smoked sausage.

This year we are breaking December heat records, so no chance to skate, but I keep the food traditions alive.

Why ? Simply because I can and... I like it !

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waarom ? Omdat het kan en zo lekker is !

Barbara and I have gotten personalized Christmas Ornaments since the 70's. For the last few years we have gotten them in Pigeon Forge, TN. Christmas is a big time at our house, even though it is just the two of us. Yesterday, being the first Saturday of December, was the day to go to one of the local tree farms and pick out our Christmas Tree. The farmers cut them for you, so it is nice and fresh.

During the next couple weeks, everything will be removed from the mantel, curio cabinet, coffee table, window sill, piano, etc. Christmas decorations will replace everything removed. Barbara and I made many of the decorations from ceramics. Dozens of stuffed animals will fill the living room. Barbara's little girl Bride Doll and her electric train will go under the tree. The train is almost 60 years old and still runs fine. Yes, Chistmas is a big time at our house.

The present church, with the beautiful backdrop of one of the most famous Bavarian Mangfallgebirges photo opportunities owes its baroque exterior renovation of a late Gothic building in 1697 by Johann Mayr Elder.

The interior is mainly determined by Baroque style in 1759.

The core of the church is the monumental High grave of the two saints from 1778.
