Designed by Central Park co-designer Calvert Vaux and architect Jacob Wrey Mould, the castle and adjacent terraces and pavilions were all called “the Belvedere,” which means “beautiful view” in Italian. The entire complex, completed in 1872, was designed as a place from which to enjoy views of the surrounding landscape

The favorite time pass place for Mumbaikars .. Gateway of India!
It is the place where the viceroys and governors once used to land upon their arrival in India. Though built as a welcome to King George V for his visit of 1911, then an event of grand significance for British India and the British empire, today serves as a "monumental memento" of colonialisation and subjugation by the British over the people of India. When Eleanor of Castile, first wife of King Edward I of England, died at Harby in Nottinghamshire in 1290, after a long illness, her remains received a triple burial. Her viscera was buried in nearby Lincoln cathedral whilst her heart and embalmed body were borne in great state from Lincoln to Westminster Abbey, where they received a separate burial, the journey taking 12 days and nights.
Edward ordered the building of 12 elegant crosses to mark each of the resting places of his wife’s funeral procession as it travelled from Lincoln to her burial place at Westminster Abbey, London. Only 3 of these crosses remain today, the best-preserved of these lying at the centre of the village of Geddington in Northamptonshire.

The River Suir, which flows through Waterford City, has provided a basis for the city's long maritime history. The place downriver from Waterford where the Nore and the Barrow join the River Suir is known "The confluence of the three waters". Waterford Port has been one of Ireland's major ports for over a millennium. In the 19th century, shipbuilding was a major industry. The owners of the Neptune Shipyard, the Malcomson family, built and operated the largest fleet of iron steamers in the world between the mid-1850s and the late 1860s, including five trans-Atlantic passenger liners.
I wonder if Elsie Sandes would make of a Chinese restaurant?
Soldiers’ Homes in Ireland were founded and directed by Elise Sandes, a Tralee native with a passion for bringing God’s word to soldiers and sailors. It should be noted that her organisation still exists.
The ordinary British soldier was not particularly observant in spite of the mandatory religion enforced every Sunday in the Church parade. The attractions of the garrison town were obvious: drink, prostitutes and gambling. These ‘elements of evil’ were not confined to large cities: Sandes Homes were built in many Irish towns, including Ballincollig County Cork, Newbridge, County Kildare and Cahir, County Tipperary.
‘To provide a home for the soldiers of this garrison, where they can feel that they will be free from the influence of those elements for evil which ever beset a soldiers’ path in every large city.’
it was love at first sight. “take me, take me with you” she
whispered softly…
lol have a wonderful day. thanks for stoppin' by. cheers!
a little something for your listening pleasure;
It took long enough, but we've finally arrived from Southaven, to our tourist destination: so tell 'cilla we made it! Actually, I believe the correct name is "Elvis Presley Enterprises" (not "Graceland Enterprises", ooops, and "thank you very much")! In my 2012 series covering retail in this area, I ended up posting zero photos of anything actually Graceland-related, so I aim to correct that a bit with this five years later series.
What we're looking at here is just south of, and almost directly across the street from Graceland itself. Google Earth shows the area where something is under construction in the distance as being the site of an old apartment complex, with Graceland-tourist related shops, etc. once on the land closer to E.P. Blvd. in the foreground. The apartments were demolished sometime between 2008 and 2010. In turn, all the old Elvis-related buildings once here (an Elvis car museum, and the Graceland Visitors Center) were very recently demolished (still seen in just March of this year, per that street view link), with this massive new visitors center (and presumably new museum) currently being built much further back off the street. The most recent satellite view still shows the old structures as well, with the new complex (of very impressive size!) being built behind them. All that stuff should be ready by the next Elvis tourist season in 2018...

The best-known dock in Liverpool is the Albert Dock, which was constructed in 1846
Liverpool is a city in North West England. Its growth as a major port was paralleled by the expansion of the city throughout the Industrial Revolution. In the 19th century, it was a major port of departure for Irish and English emigrants to North America. Liverpool's status as a port city has attracted a diverse population, which was historically drawn from a wide range of cultures and religions.
Several areas of the city centre were granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2004. The city celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2007, and was jointly named the 2008 European Capital of Culture.
Liverpool is closely associated with the arts, in particular music. The popularity of the Beatles and other music groups from the Merseybeat era contributed to the city's status as a tourist destination. The city has the second-highest number of art galleries and national museums in the United Kingdom, with only London having more.
