I have not been to Times Square in a while but I had to walk through this area to get to see Fleet Week. Walking around here really made me realize how much I miss it but it really seems so much more magical and special at night!

In East-German times they tried to use all natural sources for industrial purposes, and so they made these cut patterns, attached glasses like this one below and let the resin drop into them.

I tried to find a trunk and a glass illustrating this process, but for years I wasn´t succesful, until in 2010 I found a glass and a tree showing old East-German history.

Recently, a big portion of Times Square has been made off limits to traffic, creating big open areas for people to walk and see everything in Times Square. Right now this is an experiment, and NYC is not sure if they will keep things this way, but I am hoping that they do. I like things a lot better like this!

Times Square is a major commercial intersection in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. The extended Times Square area, also called the Theatre District, consists of the blocks between Sixth and Eighth Avenues from east to west, and West 40th and West 53rd Streets from south to north, making up the western part of the commercial area of Midtown Manhattan.

Formerly named Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in April 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the newly erected Times Building, which is now called One Times Square and is the site of the annual ball drop on New Year's Eve. Times Square, nicknamed "The Crossroads of the World" and "The Great White Way," has achieved the status of an iconic world landmark and is a symbol of New York City and the United States.
