Abstract reflections and an electronic billboard outside the MMS store. I had to study and then wait for this red eye to cycle through all the adds to get it just right.

I was at Georgeson Botanical Gardens looking for insects on what few flowers were still blooming. I like bumble bees but they're a bit shy. However, I found these flowers that the bumble bees were visiting, but to get to the nectar, the bumble bee had to climb all the way into the flower with just the tips of their abdomen hanging out. Several times I would see the bee groom itself after entry to one of these flowers. Also, the flowers were still wet from a recent rain. I believe this is a Bombus flavifrons - Yellow Head Bumble Bee.

My dad is doing well after surgery. I travelled to Mexico City to stand by him.

I had the opportunity to reunite with my brother, my mother and of course, my dad, which I haven't seen in almost year and a half.

To hug them after that long time and to see that my father can be cured, makes me feel happy.

There's only a few hours left until the Hair Fair comes to an end. It's so sad that the event will be gone for an entire year, but, with this sad moment comes something awesome. Happy Bandana Day to all my daredolls and daredevils! ♥

Today I and many other residents across the grid went without hair to show that we care. There's still time for you to do so as well.

As we say farewell to the Hair Fair, I leave you with my bandana of choice and a few of my favorite styles from this year's Hair Fair. Until next year, folks. :p

We have seen these this bridge many times, and it's always a wonder to me that wooden trestles are still being used (or allowed) on modern tracks, although this is only a partial trestle...

Tough times can’t stop you.

The only thing that can stop you is you.

If you get knocked down, get back up and go again.

Close up candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. A little too close as my lens failed to focus properly and his leading eye is a little soft in 1:1 view but I love the shot anyway. Enjoy!

Losing track of the times I've stopped the car to photograph something that caught my eye. I've written before about the mental difficulty involved in overcoming the inertia of traveling from A to B. For many years, stopping along the way was next to impossible for me. Hesitation is the killer here. Every moment spent wondering if the subject is worth stopping for carries you ever farther away. And the odds of stopping decrease by the second. I'd rationalize my indecision with thoughts such as "it's too late now" or "it wasn't worth the delay." I've retrained my brain since then, and it really has become a drill of sorts. You need to be prepared before the event happens so you can work instinctively. In this case I found d myself driving beneath a huge frontal boundary...exactly the kind of visual I look for in clouds. And I happened to have the camera and was near an old farm. There was absolutely no indecision. I found a place to park and jumped out of the car. The sudden change of environment is exhilarating. One moment inside a warm and dry car, everything in control, next minute outside getting tossed about in a storm totally out of control. And getting the photos, all spontaneously. No time for deliberation. I love the spontaneity of shooting this way, and living in the moment. Storms heighten the experience, particularly the anxious minutes just ahead of the rain when the sky is at it's darkest and so much wind energy is being unleashed. The camera helps legitimize my presence in places like this. But it's more than that really. So many of my most exciting life experiences in recent years simply would not have happened absent a desire to document them.

New York Week - Photo #5

I can't remember if this was a bench or just a piece of metal, but somehow I am always drawn to shiny, reflective things... like a magpie :-)
